I used the HD 700 with LD MKIII (with various tubes) for several months and it sounded pretty good, but the Valhalla 2 was a solid upgrade (end even better with various, and inexpensive, 2C51 or 5670 tubes).

If you think the 6SN7 tube sound good with your LD wait until you plug that 6SN7 into an amp that is specifically designed for that tube it will blow your mind.

With the Massdrop/Cavalli CTH and LCX on the way, I don't have any plans for another amp anytime soon...but...out of curiosity, what would you recommend for a "next-step-up" tube rig???
I'm running the same adapters. but with NU black glass GTs (previously played around with some TS Mouse Ears, Sylvania GTBs, and Ken-Rad VT-231s (which are now in my C3G driven MKII))...I also modded some of the caps and swapped the pot. I have no complaints, really.
Well I have the SD700s ordered from Massdrop, self Christmas present I guess. I currently run my SD600s on a WA7 with upgraded tubes and it sounds good. Does anyone have comments on the pairing with the 700s?
I bought mine for $712 and seen it @ 690 and 735 within the last year. To get that price you're gonna have to spend prob 3-4 weeks checking it daily. With the HD800s the desire for HD800 has died down from what it used too.

At that price I'll definitely have to check it out. It's since then gotten more competition with the introduction of ZMF and MrSpeakers so hopefully that keeps the price within the upper Mid-Fi range.

If you can DIY BH CRACK is a nice one to start learning and building a tube amp.For me i don't look at ready made amps no more i just build one for my needs plus it is a lot cheaper to make one than buying a readily available product or even a kit. This one is made to drive my HD 700 and blows the LD MK III out of the water at least to my ears the only down side it's ugly looking.
WARNING attempting to build your own tube amp requires understanding the safety and danger of electricity my amp is operating at 550VAC/300VDC so it is lethal if you're not careful,i do not suggest building your own amp if you are not comfortable or no knowledge of electricity.

I've seen used HD800 at $700 and even a few with the SDR mod for $725. I got my HD800 new for $1050 a few years ago but I still like the HD700 better for some genres while the HD800 is hard to beat for well recorded/mastered classical.
