Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

This is a hard one, maybe wrong forum

Have the HD700 and LOVE them but when traveling a bit large.

What will be the equivalent of HD700 when it comes to in ear earbuds.

have been looking at Sennheiser IE8, 80 and 800.

Will connect them right to the iPhone so no fancy headphone amp.

I am most likely the most boring person here. I have been exchanging headphones and amps the last 15 years both here in the US but also before when I lived in Europe. After I bought the HD700 and a Centronic hifi m8 I just gave up. Sold all the other stuff I had and are just extremely happy with what I have. Sounds EXACTLY how I want and even if it is a bit boring I feel very happy and have not been listening to more music ever. Not the most expensive, nor the most...

I noticed a crackling sound coming from the ear pads of my hd700s when moving my head. Anyone else experience this? Suggested fix for the problem?

Yes, I have noticed the same thing. It seems to happen a lot less over time. I think the ear pads have to get "seated".

Okay, I've had my HD700s for a couple years now and while I don't listen to any headphone that often, every time I drop in the lounge and put these on I just go off with the music. They are just so nice to listen too. My music is a mix of 70s Rock, Smooth Jazz and Classical and they do them all much justice.

I'm no HiFi expert nor use the terms so often found here but my search for the perfect headphone (for me) has ended. I may as well sell my HD600s and most of my in ears and on ear phones now. Need a couple for travel and direct from my iPhone listening. But from my sources through my Burson Soloist HA-160, the HD700s excell.

Totally Agree. I have had the HD700 for  about 4 months and I have never used or even felt like going back to  any of my other headphones. Truly amazing headphones.

Hi All

My listening system is iFI iDSD, iFI iUSBPower, iFI iCAN and Sennheiser HD650's. It's all connected together with Forza Audioworks USB cables and interconnects and the HD650's has a Toxic Cables Silver Poison cable.

I'm looking to upgrade my headphones and it has been suggested that either the HD700 or Shure SRH1840 would be a suitable upgrade. I like base, but accurate base and am a bit treble sensitive.

I live in Jersey, Channel Islands and there are no specialist dealers, so will be buying solely on the advice I get and any reviews I can find.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

First I don't like to use the word "upgrade", I like having headphones with different sound signatures, variety is the spice of life.
As to your question between HD-700 and SRH-1840:

HD-700 would be my recommendation since you have the HD-650, the SRH-1840 is fairly close in sound signature to the HD-650, but different enough that I still have both.
Since you are treble sensitive the HD-700 may be a problem, some are okay with it (me) while others can't stand it.  Some joke that the HD-700 is for older people that have lost some hearing in the upper range but my girlfriend who has great hearing is okay with the highs of the HD-700 but only if driven with a Project Ember or Fiio X3, with the Lyr2 she says the highs are too bright for her.

I found the SRH-1840 to be significantly different than the HD 650. The Shure was much more comfortable for me and seemed more mellow. I felt like I could wear them forever. That said, I actually liked my HD 650 more for it's punch and bass. I could wear either of them much longer than my HD 700. They were super comfy, but they highs got to me after listening for a bit.

That is why the amp used is important with the HD-700, I couldn't stand them with my Asgard2, Magni, and AH-01 while they sound great with the Ember, pretty good to great with BH Crack and pretty good with Lyr2 depending on tubes used.  My GF who is much more sensitive to highs only uses the Ember and X3 with the HD-700.

I think Head-Fi'ers have to learn this lesson the hard way. Many headphones sound different when changing amps (especially when moving to tubes) and what's "intolerable" can sound great with a change in amp.

Personally, I wouldn't have believed such a statement a couple of years ago...
