Oh philosoraptor, you make such logical.

  what if....
burn in of the HD700 is just your ear adapting to the treble peak, not the headphones changing the frequency response itself?

I'm only 28, and I can hear right up to 18khz fairly well, and the 6khz spike does not bother me one bit. I never find it offensive or intrusive to my experience.

Hmmm
So those enjoyed the hd700 are those with ageing ears or personally a fan for 6khz treble

They are nothing alike. The COP is warm, bassy, with smooth treble. It's more akin to the DT770 Pro 80Ohm.

why didn't you listen to their advice? ( which available since 2012?) and they just recently revived the support for hd650, you should have gone with those!

I already have a neutral-dark-ish headphone. I want a bright headphone to complement it. I can't afford the HD800, so I'm going to try modifying the HD700 instead. Which is why I bought dirt cheap and used.

Why are you going to mod your HD-700s? What not try using a software EQ, instead?

Just curious...

Just curious...

EQ degrades sound quality, plus the 6kHz peak on the HD700 is accompanied by some nasty ringing, which will prevent EQ from being very effective on it. Plus, the bass could be tuned a bit tighter, and EQ can't do anything about that.

I bought these specifically for modding, so... yeah.

Have you considered the possibility that yours might be defective? Not trying to put you down, but if you have the chance, maybe demo someone else's HD 700. That way you can get a refund if the fault lies in your defective headphones.

Alright. Since you are not trolling. And given your feedback in the first place.
Now i hope i will like the treble characteristic of this headphone.

I bought without trying. lol

Im sure if you find your shure is having a problem. You should get a refund.

My question to you is. Why are you here? I mean. Why are you still here?
The likelihood the problem lies with headphones miniscule. He probably doesn't like the sound of the HD 700. Which I don't blame him. I'm hear to read responses of people claiming the HD 700 is amazing when they haven't listened to other headphones to realise what they are missing.

I can hardly imagine people are buying 500 dollar headphone as their 1st headphone.

Usually they get ath m50x
