Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

So I plugged this hd700 into the standard pulse and even after eq I was underwhelmed. These have the Anax mod and I didn't know it. I tried to eq the bass to thump and failed. Then! I plugged it into my affordable pioneer sa-6500 and viola. Even with the mod and the treble knob all the way down on these things there are still harsh moments. What the freak?! But otherwise they sound great and the bass is lovely.

Haha, maybe it's just a placebo with your Vintage love

Glad you found something that helps them. I had some old foam discs from my AKG K240 laying around since I did a pad replacement. I haven't had much time to play around, but it gives them a small step to the HD650 side of things (bit muddier bass, bit of edge off the treble). Figure with as many headphones as you roll, you might have some around (or even felt might be a start).

Sorry for being vague before. I didn't want to say "oh these are awful" and make you be biased before you got them.

In this case yes indeed!

I don't think its placebo. I will compare it to the pulse again later but it responded better to boosting on the pioneer than my zmf blackwood and my blackwood responded better to eq than the hd700

I ended up ordering the wa7d with the tubed psu since I'll be hooking it to some other sources as well! So keen for it to arrive. I gotta say damn the USD to Aussie dollar conversion rate though :/

I'm not sure how the built in dac is but I'm most definitely going to have to upgrade from my fiio e17

Congrats! You will absolutely love the combo. Did you get the tube upgrade as well?

I totally understand how you feel for the USD conversion, but in the long term, it will be well worth it.

I upgraded from the E9 and E17 and the DAC is a noticeable improvement, but I wouldn't say it's a night-and-day difference. My Audioengine A5+ didn't sound dramatically better, though instrument separation and clarity improved by a slight notch.

But the amp output, build quality is well worth the money at the end.

This is my first tube amp so I'll most definitely get different tubes down the line. In the meantime I'll stick to the stock ones for now so I can get accustomed to the sound.

Yeah I'll see how I feel about the whole dac part of it but I am sure I will be more than happy with the built in one. Man I'm so excited!! Just sitting here at work checking every now and then to see if they've started shipping it yet :D

Take your time. Enjoy the stock ones for now and take the upgrade game slowly. Did you get the Electro Harmonix tube?

Any song suggestions where these cans shine? I'm having hard time hearing differences between this and 100 euro wireless headset. Sure there is slightly more depth (soundstage?) and detail but I'm bit disappointed at this point. Coming from closed headphones keyboard clicking is annoying as these don't muffle it at all. These are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn though.

I can honestly say the best genre these headphones do well in is in Funk and Electronic. Just listen to Underwater Original Version 1979 by Harry Thumman.

How does the HD700 compare with the Audeze LCD2. If you consider retail price they are close to the same. At least on these forums I'd say it is safe to say most people seem to prefer the LCD2 other than the comfort issue on the Audeze due mostly to the weight of them. However I have some HD600 and I like the Sennhieser sound, is the HD700 that bad really as compared to the LCD. I demo'd a pair for a short time and granted the environment wasn't the best but they sounded pretty good and at least on the limited source material they had, I didn't hear any of that treble spike people complain about.

l'm busy now but, put it simple: if the midrange is 'your thing', then go LCD-2. lt's a bit more forward than in HD-700, and more 'bodied', 'full'. l simply find it better.

Now, soundstage on LCDs (fazor), although as wide as HD-700s (more or less, from memory), is really not as '3D'. This is very noticeable, especially when watching movies. HD-700 create an spacial sound space that projects around your face, like a circle. LCDs will create like a 'rectangular' sound space, from side to side only.

Hope this quick notes help...

I would need a recommendation. For a short 1.2m cable with 3.5mm jack. I only have seen one offer on Ebay so far from China.

The ebay one is excellent, for the price. I went for the copper color.

Congrats! I know you will love this combo. I do. Yeh, the conversion is a bit of a killer. But as others have stated. Worth it.

Tube rolling (after a little reading, I just figured out that this is a fancy way of saying "changing tubes") is definitely part of the fun.
