Same here. Which one I prefer changes depending on really what I'm listening too. I tend to prefer the 600 for jazz and classical and the 6XX/650s for classic rock and metal. Thanks for the link. The hard core measurement guys definitely have a different way of looking at things. The two phones have always sounded similar but clearly different to me. Which one I like the best will change from day to day though.

I agree 100%Finally showed up and I have been listening to the new Romanian HD600... It honestly sounds exactly as others have described it and how I assumed it would sound. I like it, different enough from the HD650 to keep, but I can definately see why many would say it is pointless to own both - as they are that similar... The HD600 sounds very "complete" in its sound signature, just in a slightly different way than the HD650.
Also, I heard a minor detail I have never heard before when listening to a few test songs... I can see why people would prefer to mix and master with these headphones - flat and non-fatiguing. It is a really sweet sound.

I am sometimes a "measurement guy," but I did hear differences between HD-600 and HD-650. I had owned the former for several years, then sold it to a friend and bought the HD-650 when it first came out. I found the highs were lacking and the bass was muddy, so I sold them (on Head-Fi, I think) a few weeks later for about what I'd paid. Then I bought back the 600's from my friend, and I'm still happy with them despite the lack of deep bass.
I'm not totally discounting measurements don't get me wrong. They do have their place. I just don't think they tell the whole story and there are many other factors that go into how something sounds. Just my opinion based on my experience. Everyone's mileage may vary of course.I am sometimes a "measurement guy," but I did hear differences between HD-600 and HD-650. They're smoking that good stuff over there at audiosciencereview. Similar measurements does not mean the two headphones will sound the same and they don't.

A product of sloppy methodology. It is well-known that pad wear can change in sound of the HD600, even quite a bit for well-worn pads: https://crinacle.com/2020/11/04/the-pad-wear-update-ranking-list-update/
The measurements from ASR didn't control for this variable, which may have led to faulty conclusions. Regardless, the HD600 is more alike than different from the HD650. From personal experience, the mid-bass bump on the HD6XX is pretty noticeable when compared to my HD600 (countertop), both sporting new replacement OEM pads.

Anyone who can not hear the difference between the HD600 and HD650 should have their opinion discarded immediately.
Hell, even just listening to a podcast - the difference is pretty obvious with the voices being more forward and clear on the HD600 in comparison.

You must be completely deaf not to hear the difference.
I can pick them any time in any kind of blind test and inside an aeroplane...

Even without controlling for pad wear idk in what universe someone hears the 600/650 as the same. To me they sound more different than similar, particularly when you factor in how each headphone performs technically. Audiosciencereview is useful when i need to look at how an amp or DAC performs in terms of measurements. But one can only make themselves dumber when reading this approach applied to headphones.

When I made that statement, I was thinking along the lines of comparing the HD600 to a headphone from a different manufacturer, say a Hifiman Arya or any of the Beyerdynamics. I don't think that it is controversial to suggest that there are more commonalities between the HD600 and HD650 than the HD600 and the other two.Even without controlling for pad wear idk in what universe someone hears the 600/650 as the same. Fair enough. How do you like the Cavali LP paired with the 600?
Of course they are similar (HD 600 and HD 650, I own both), i can tell they are from the same family, but definitely not identically sounding. I prefer the HD 600 more often than not over the 650, but I really dig both.

I'm not sure if this has been covered but @Sennheiser do you know if the Made in Romania traditional finish (eggshell) HD600 had a limited run and are infact rare now? It's just something I was thinking about. Thanks.
