Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

My god. Went to listen to the HD700's again and never again will I even look at those. So bad, sound wise. HD600's have spoiled my ears! I'm now comparing them to the X2's and still prefer the mids/highs on the HD600's. I don't think I can part with these. Too damn good.

I've just washed the earpads and so while I'm waiting for them to dry completely, I've switched back to my old HD 228 (completely incomparable to HD 600, I know) and plugged it directly in my laptop just to use something for now. You know, I can't believe that I've been listening to my music like this for years. Yet again I've been reminded how grateful I should be to own these (even more so because I can't afford them myself). The difference is like earth and heaven. I doubt that I could love any other headphones more than the HD 600.

+++++++1 Big Time.  I bought the HD700 shortly after they came out & in no time realized I had made a big mistake. The worst balanced headphone I ever bought. The HD600 just hangs around always selling well while many new & much more expensive "contenders" with shining, glimmering attributes & a ton of publicity, come and go.  I've had mine since 2003 (this is my 2nd pair which I bought last year because the 1st pair got old) & it's still my go to HP most of the time.  Sundown you resumed it perfectly & I couldn't have said it better myself : "Too damn good."

I think, the project of making the HD600 was too successful... That's why it still beats headphones over it's own retail price, after 18 years on the market. :) Unbelievable achievement. What can you match to this in our always changing tech world of nowdays?

Does this mean that those of us who bypassed the 600 and chose different phones in the same price range and slightly above have made a dreadful mistake? Please tell me, as I'm having trouble sleeping.

The newer balanced amps on the market now have made the HD600 come alive, this fixed the slight veiling on the top end.

My HD600 is still regular use with the Mjolnir and a custom Yulong A28 .

No, but it does mean, it is worth to give an hour of listening time to the HD600, if you never did.

The HD600 was and still is an affordable headphone that set the standard for many of the later models that followed from both Sennheiser and their competitors.

Not at all pp312.  It's only the HD600 community giving some love to one of our favourite HP.  Also, some of the HPs in the same price range which you refer to might also be better than more expensive models.  i.e. I firmly believe that the HD600 is a much better HP than the HD700.  But all is subjective, based on personal taste, etc.  Please don't worry & start sleeping well again.
