How hard is it to remove the case top to verify ? Is it a sandwich deal or is it one top piece like bifrost 2 which is easy to remove..
It's a little trickier. You've got to remove the gray shell then the top. Same in reverse, because you have to line up the LEDs. There's guides out there.

Sounds like a pain in the ass ! I have an A2 and an A1 and I can definitely hear the difference between them but was curious.
Both great units, just depends on system synergy.. for me, A2 is the ideal far and away.

I had my A1 in my headphone stack before I moved it over to the speakers a few months ago. It sounds great in both.

I could definitely see the reasoning here - I use my A2 solely on speakers.
I find the A2 slightly colder and dryer with a bit more attack especially on the low end and a bit more extended on the highs. Mates up perfect with my speakers. A1 is more midcentric and smooth and absolutely addicting on M Field and clear OG for me.

I believe the op is referring to the sticker on the left. The one pictured was purchased in January 2017.
Mine is MB 00532, purchased in Jan 2016. I love how it sounds.

228 here but I bought it used recently after a trip to the mother ship for unison by previous owner

Mine, bought used16 months ago, is MB 01234. Paired with a Freya N and great tubes (currently NOS RCA 12AU7 clear-tops branded "Conn") it's the best that I've heard music reproduced.

The OG Gungnir is challenging to open. The top, front, and bottom are all one piece making a u shape. Lots of screws involved, and I found it difficult to line up the leds with the holes in the case upon reassembly.
