[REVIEW] VSONIC GR07 – Labor of Love

T100 and T140 can both be used if you push them in. But for easier fit onto the nozzle, you probably want T140.

T140 is mainly designed for Phonak PFE. The nozzle size is bigger than T100, but they are both smaller than GR07's nozzle size. Westone UM series uses the P series nozzle, but you can use T100 as well, just a little tight. Check out the first page for picture and you will see the nozzle.

Okay, thanks!  Could be a bit of a pain to find these in china though, I only see one store that sells the T140 on taobao.  Looks like lots of them sell T100s though.  So these would fit too?  I'd rather not spend 5x more on T140s if I don't have to.

You're right. T130 is for PFE and T140 is for Apple dual driver, but they do look identical though.

ClieOS, how does the GR07 compare with e-Q5?

Tai,

Dude, im having a hard time between the 262 and GR07 now. They are both so dang good for the money! Everytime i listen to the 262's im like O_O. Put some power behind them and they open up like crazy! I can see why they are both on the top end of your score card  I think both the GR07/262's wont be going anytime soon.

Do the GR07 hiss with the HM-602 at all..?? Also how do the 262's go with it..??

cheers!

They are surprisingly comparable on many levels. The main difference is e-Q5 is more forward and cluster while GR07 is more spacious and a little more neutral. e-Q5 has better speed and treble / sparkle retrieval while GR07 has deeper, more textured bass and channel separation / soundstage. Overall the differences are largely in the different way of presentation.

They don't hiss with HM602. Neither are hiss-prone since GR07 is 55ohm and 262 is even more. Synergy wise, GR07 is probably better than RE262 when it comes to pairing with HM602, but this is not to say RE262 sounds bad with it.

but it loses to eq5 on clarity?

e-Q5 is only slightly more sparkly and the extension is about the same, so clarity wise they are right in the same ballpark.

Cheers mate! I have had no reason to jump at the 601/602 yet. But money is burning a hole in my pocket. I hear there is something in the works as a new dap from Fang. So i may wait a little longer.

It is called the HM603. Basically it is the same as HM602 but with a different amp section. HM602 uses the same amp section as the OPA2107 based 'standard amp module v2" from the last generation of HM801, while the HM603 will use the same amp section as the current HM801, which is called 'Power Amp Module".

BTW, these pair really well with the Arrow 3G portable amp.  Vs unamped from the iPhone 4 it isn't night & day, but the difference is definitely noticeable.  If you want to refine the presentation and sound of these phones, a good neutral amp is the way to go.  The Arrow is a very neutral amp so if you want to add some oomph while maintaining transparency, it would be a great choice.  The Arrow tightens, adds depth, and essentially enhances everything that make the GR07 such an excellent phone.

The most obvious improvement in the bass was how the bass quality improved.  The Arrow tightened the bass, improved it's depth & impact, and the texturing (which was already quite excellent) refined some.  As a result, the low end gained speed and definition.

How the mids improve with good amping is the show stealer with this IEM.  The timbre in the mids became a bit more rounded and gained crispness.  The instrument separation improved a noticeable amount too.  Texturing once again was excellent and the other most noticeable improvement was how clear the layering & instrument separation became.  The GR07's ability to layer is it's signature forte so to hear the Arrow take this characteristic up a notch was really quite something.  With the Arrow, the quality of the instrument separation, superb imaging, detailed layering, and timbral improvement give the mids an INCREDIBLE 3D quality.  All the while they remain smooth, non-fatiguing, and not too thick or thin.. just perfect.

The treble became crisper & slightly more airy with the Arrow in the equation.  I felt the timbre improved a bit too and sparkle became cleaner.  The treble has always supplemented the mid & bass presentation of this phone really well, so there seems to be less improvement I can hear here when amped.  With the Arrow, the timbre of the treble rounds some and clarity in the upper frequency range improves.

So, overall.. I find the Arrow to be a fantastic pairing with the GR07..  I really like the iPhone 4's DAC (more than the 3GS').. it's very clean, detailed, and arguably more neutral/analytical than the slightly thicker, mid-forward DAC on the 3GS.  I listen to the GR07 unamped most of the time and am completely satisfied, but adding a clean amp like the Arrow does nothing but enhance an already great phone.

if i m not wrong the gr07 can use the t400 comply.
saw some of the seller on taobao listed the gr07 compatible with them.
same these on taobao too http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=9014594846

So far I tried Comply T100, T130 and T140. T400 is definitely not compatible.
