REVIEW: Vivo Xplay 3S + XE800 Mobile audio perfection

If you had listened/owned/own GR07s and if XE800 sounds atleast 90% of GR07s then it's the same driver, that difference being different VIVO's shell, tuning etc.....And looking at the cable, they didn't knot the cable inside the shell before the driver same as GR07s not sure the cable is glued enough near the entry tho.

btw, did you finalize the cable? pls share with us when you are done with the re-cabling!

It's not pretty, but since you asked:

I painted the outer shell for fun, not sure if it's going to chip off later.

I cannibalized the cable from some other earphone, which claims it's from Furukuwa. I will have to recable it again some time later though, not only because the cable is a bit too short, but also because it is extremely stiff, making it impossible to use for over-the-ear wear, which I did not find out until actually trying it on.

This makes me a bit concerned, because I bought two unfinished cables for my IM50 for over-the-ear wear, in which I still haven't started to work on yet.

As for the whole GR07 similarity thing, my GR07s broke like 2 years ago,I'd be lying if I told you I could remember how my earphones sounded exactly, save for a comparison. I did found some traits similar to it, but that could be said for many other IEMs, so I still have no idea. What I can confirm is, the drivers do look spot on, and it does measure 11mm as well. Stealing this picture by DaBomb77766 for comparison:

EDIT: Oh yeah, for strain relief, they didn't knot or glue the cable ending, I guess that's because they didn't want to use more space inside the already crowded enclosure. For me, I used some heat shrink instead for both openings outside and inside the enclosure.

That's nicely done....yeah looking at the cable it seems really stiff and springy.

Thanks for posting the pictures on request!

The XE800 doesn't sound exactly like my GR07 Classic. High frequencies are not as extended as GR07, mids not as detailed and low frequencies are not as tight and extended, soundstage is not as wide. For me, it sounds more like VSD1S with better mids and slightly lesser bass.

Hmm....not even close, except for the pivoting/swiveling nozzle (and missing- occasional sibilance?). TY for sharing!

FYI, GR07 Classic does not have the sibilants of both GR07 Mk1 & 2, in fact it's the smoothest one. Do a check on the GR07 graph comparison chart on the HeadFi GR07 appreciation thread. If you haven't tried the newer GR07 Classic then you owe yourself a good listen. I'm using the grey silicone Phonak tips with my GR07 classic and no sibilants and it sure sounds way better than the XE800 as described a few posts back.

I've never heard any of the GR07 siblings but IF both the AN16 and XE800 share the same driver they may also share it with the GR07 without sounding similar (since the AN16 and XE800 doesn't sound very similar).

Well, I have the CE (maroon) and to me it sounds so, on some tracks, so I said "occasionally", and same is not on VSD1LE and is lot smoother to it in comparison. Even the BE has the sibilance (quoted by Joker), typical vsonic house sound. But once you used to it you just go by it,imo....

I have to agree with you that XE800 is definitely a pretty good IEM for it's asking price, however I just want to point out that it's not a GR07 Classic's replacement. They both sound pretty much different, yet I do agree that the XE800 does have the Vsonic house sound signature but just not on par with the GR07 I'm afraid.

Yes correct....All are 11mm bio-cellulose drivers and are tuned differently, but I'm not sure of XE800s, tho it's an VSD1 series inspired casings and pivoting nozzle (and different cable).

Yes, totally with you....I too like it's glossy white finish with chrome accent and has nice remote control to use it with cell phones, not limiting to just media players/DAPs.

I believe this is the same seller on Ebay. I only say this because they are both using the same exact pictures, but their names don't match. http://www.ebay.com/itm/262344419209

+1, just about to ask the same thing.

Also i already own an16 and shozy zero (primary gear). AN16 is okay, didn't like gr07 bass edition. Is xe800 suitable for jazz? Thanks.
