Well, that's interesting, didn't know they were doing a limited run of the retired V281... time to read some reviews i guess...
It doesn’t come out until December 🙂.

Indeed, an OTL or OTC is another league altogether (for better or for worse depending on taste and preferences). I had an Icon Audio HP8 Mk2 (OTC) beside my V200 for some time, now replaced by a Woo Audio WA2 (OTL). The only issue is the sound is heavily dependent on the tubes used. Once dealt with the tube selection, it's a game changer, an expensive one, that requires time, patience and commitment but it is rewarding in both journey and results.

One thing to keep in mind, from my experience at least, is that the expensive side of tubes is more the rolling part than the limited life time of tubes.

Tube sound exists and I love it. However it will never replace solid state and vice versa. It was never tubes vs solid state for me. Imo, it never should be.

So, right now, amps wise, I'm rotating between a bunch of Schiit amps, WA2, V200, some Audio-gd stuff and another reference of mine (V200 being the other), the classic Chord Hugo Mk1. Hybrid wise, I can recommend Schiit Lyr 2 the most, then Lyr 3, as well as the Mjolnir 2 (even the Mjolnir 1 solid state wise, with fingers crossed for the upcoming Mjolnir 3 which will also be solid state it seems).

The V200 and the Hugo Mk1 are not going anywhere... ... ...
Not sure if you still have the woo wa2, but would like to know if you think the woo is a better amp then the Icon? and what tube tubes did you settled on? i have a ZMF Verite and trying to decide between those two

I have experience with both and would choose the Icon over the Woo. Although the WA2 is one of the more enjoyable Woo products I've tried (I tend to like their stuff less and less as the price increases) the HP8 mkII was really a standout product imho. It's a great little amp.

Vioelectric HPA V200 chez moi is alive, well, & bringing home the 🎼 goods with a variety of headphones (closed backed, open backed, low impedance, high impedance, dynamic, planar). On this excursion: a marvelous, inspiring synergy with Audeze LCD-X (2016 vintage)!

Hey there- stumbled over this thread as a two-time former V200 owner who has since upgraded (though all the accolades the V200 has gather are very well-deserved!).

I also own a WA2, and have “maxed out” on the tube front, reaching what I consider “end game status” for me personally with ZMF dynamic-driver headphones. I also suspect a future Caldera Closed would match nicely with my solid-state amp…

Anyway, please see my signature below re: Tubes for the WA2 and feel free to DM with any questions. I’m traveling for the next day or so but can answer fairly swiftly.

To @Bowbow, I use two upgrade cables with Audeze LCD-X. Norne Audio Vykari (shown above) and Forza Audio Works Noir Hybrid: with TRS and with XLR amp termination. Results: deeper bass extension, more layered tiering of soundstage, greater dynamic impact (independent of volume level). EDIT: These cables are also used on ZMF dynamic-driver headphones.

I was going to return my G111 MK2 back to B&H and then upgrade to the V202, but then someone offered me a V200 this week for $400. I figured it would be better to keep my G111 and get V200 which has a different sound signature.
My question is how comparable is the V200 in sound to the new V202?

The sound signature of the V200 is similar to the V202. Fried did not recommend the update. The G111 and G111 MKII also have the exact same sound signature. The difference is the electronics in the G111 MKII miniaturized.

HPA V200 is still going strong with an improved supporting lineup ...
