I bought these headphones on taobao/新浦电声. Headphones were with velor pads. I checked the headphones using SineGen - a reduction of the sound from 4kHz, but not huge, somewhere around -10dB.

SineGen, pretty neat little tool. I can hear 26Hz and the dip is audible from 3.5kHz through around 4.4kHz through my soundcard.
Laptop speakers very barely audible at 92Hz with my ear right up to the speaker

Geez...i am having a fantastic time listening to classicals on this EVO...clear, spacious...amazing with a tube amp.

How much deeper peak at 4Khz you hear in your headphones?

If we all listened to frequency sweeps instead of music, then yes the dip is unmistakable. Given I do not have the tools to properly set EQ it's hard to put a number on it. Listening through 4978Hz, 3729.3Hz and 2489Hz frequencies on each ear, the difference between these frequencies is somewhere around 10db when measured in a rather unscientific manner :) I found in SineGen that the dip is lowest at about 3.7kHz to my ear. My conclusion - those high frequency tones are not much fun to listen to on their own!

Thank you! That is, sharp peak to zero in this area do not have your headphones and my. A small decline in this area or climb after it occurs in some headphones:

This ravine 4K worries me, because I could not understand how it can be heard in the music.

I don`t get it how EVO can sound clear with classicals as stock? Yes it should be spacious but pairing with tube amp and clear? Most ppl find it "muddy" without modding. Or have you already modified your cans?

Btw, can anyone in here compare HD-681 EVO with Superlux HD-330 ?

I use the velour pads, stock, and I don't find the EVO to be very muddy at all. Its no HE-500 in clarity, but definitely not veiled. It's easily my favorite $50 headphone as of right now, but I have a few Somic headphones on their way that might challenge them.

i am using the stockvelor, and some foam stuffing under the pads in the places where it sits behind the ears.
