With the ATH-IM02 plugged into the headphone jack of my laptop and nothing playing, I hear a hiss sound. Like empty radio channel when u searching for stations, if u get what i mean. I have to turn the volume of the song higher than usual to drown out the sound. When starting up laptop, also got sounds.I dont get that the sound when its plugged into my iphone 5.
With my headphones (Soundmagic HP-150), I dont hear that background sound.

How do i get rid of the sound?

Unfortunately that's probably your laptop creating the noise and the IM02 picking it up because it's more sensitive than your full-size cans.

An external dac/amp is usually the easiest solution for this....

The im02s are a lot more sensitive than your hp150s so they could be picking up some kind of interference or it could just be the noise floor of your laptops soundcard. You could try an inline attenuator or else go a bit more extreme and get a better quality external dac/amp.

Thanks for the advance information on the Audio-Technica® ATH-IM02's performance.  From feralslash's issue with the source computer, the ATH-IM02 should be a winner in terms of analyzing not only an audio stream but also the componentry therein; could be just the tool for finding out how much internal noise my old Motorola® S705 Bluetooth device has, "connected" and not (would also apply to my Asus® CM1630-06's XONAR STX' internal headphone amplifier, or that on my LinUX box's Creative Laboratories® SB0250 I/O Drive)....

Wow never thought that IM70 could get that high scores but pretty spot on what I also think. :) Good write up

its a bit over rated, im-03 is not fun but im-70 is not precise enough to be placed over im-03. my 2 cents.

I think my next purchase will be the IM03 to go with the iPod Classic and soon to have Fostex HP-P1. I think it should be a great step up from the IM50. Has anyone compared the IM03 against the Shure SE535?

Also does anybody know a legit site where I can purchase the AT-HDC5/1.2 cable and have it shipped to America?

Just bought the IM04 for myself, and the IM02 for my wife. The IM04 is quite impressive, and I prefer it over the IM03's brighter, more aggressive sound. The price in Japan was pretty good, and coupled with the tax and Visa discount, I ended up getting 30% off the price I would have paid in Singapore. A good deal for a great IEM. :smile_phones:

You should give your wife the 04 and keep the 02 for yourself. :p

Can you compare im01 to either im50/70?

I can't, I am half country apart from my sister in law, who has I'm-03. I only has Im-70 now. I knew I liked Both, but they are very different from comfort ability and sound signature...I only knew that it wasn't worth it to move up to 300$ something for the I'm-03 vs 70 though, and that was just me.

Also me.

But I'd go even further. For both comfort and sound quality, I preferred the IM70. That being said, I'm personally very open to different sound signatures, so maybe ymmv.

It's a good thing (?) that I don't have to do this, since the IM03/4 are way too huge to fit in my wife's small ears. Only a handful of multi-driver IEMs are minute enough to fit her. However, the W60 can, and she's in love with them. x 1000
