Last night my HM-601 gave out a very high pitched sound on extremely high volume during playback when the battery indicator went down to one bar. Has anyone else experienced this?

Were you using the Gain settings? I have a really hard time believing you on this one lol. With my FX700 I use it under volume 2 and its super loud as is.
I used the gain settings and I used this player for 6 days then used the 801 which was only a little better. So I am going for the Dx100 which you seem interested in. I wished the 601 was strong enough because I dont want to carry 2 stereo equipment with me when I walk. The 601 did sound good but not much better then the Cowon D2. if it did I would have been happy cause I have money burning my pockets.

You might have fresh ears. I am 45 and been to over 220 live concerts, clubbing since 1988 and had a car stereo system for over 20 yrs with 10,0000 and now 5,000 watts.
I'm guessing you are using high impedance phones then? That's the only thing I could think of, even then the 601 is pretty powerful. You driving HE6 with them lol

The Cowon D2 has 74mW at 16ohm and the iBasso Dx100 has more than 1000mW at 16ohm which is more then iBasso portable P4 amp. So what does the 601 and 801 have?
