Release date?...    Obviously not going to be May as initially announced, so does anyone know of a new release date?

I think May was "announce" date, not release date.

So, I had the opportunity to see the 802/901/902 (whatever it is) at the NYC Head-Fi Spring meet up and I found out some details.

First off, it accepts SDXC cards up to 64GB (so far, that's whats confirmed). That's the full sized cards, not the microSD ones.

Secondly, The bottom of the device is where the connector (similar in idea to the iPod dock connector) for line out is.

I asked about the TRRS switch and what happens if it is accidentally switched at any point. I was informed that this would not have an effect un unbalanced headphones (maybe something in respects to the stepdance2?) and that it would also not have much of a negative effect on balanced headphones. Apparently one would really just prefer to be on the proper setting, as some weirdness in the sound quality may result, but not cause damage in any respects (apparently).

This is all information I was told at the meet, the device looks great and I hope to see it out soon.

Sounds cool! Looking forward to it so much.

Btw 801 accepts SDXC 64GB card too. I really hope they will increase the battery life. I also heard that 901 accepts different amp cards too. Not 100% sure though.

this review came out today:

tbh, its not very substantive- just very generalized "this thing sounds really good"- hopefully better ones come out soon.

If it was tested based on the pix, it's the same as what some of us had a chance to demo back in May in Tokyo's headphone show - i.e. demo-ing the DAC part only but external amp. Personally I'm not certain if I'd consider that as a fair preview.

It'll come out alright. I've seen it and they already stopped selling the 801. It's coming, just not much news on it right now as the only ones that would know about it are the ones working on it right now. It seemed like they were 80% there when I saw it at the beginning of June. Expect a release or more information come August, September, or October

So much for a May release. I'm glad I just went with a DX100 when my HM-801 died. I could've been without a portable player for quite a while longer, it seems.

It was to be announced in May, not released.
