if want real deep bass - check out a church organ recording, something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Messiaen-Organ-Complete-Willem-Tanke/dp/B000RPBZHK

or just go to one,

incredible deep, teeth rattling, flare flapping bass.

I hope the 802 has no need for EQ, just a perfectly flat clean line-out.
They could leave the power amp out and just spend the money on the DAC and pre amp section
so many people use an external amp (I used a GS Voyager), this could be offered as an option

one day...................

Mr HIFIMAN??? are you reading?

I Believe HIFIMAN is putting out 901 is partly because of DX100. I am sure they will look into DX100 and analysis the sound throughly. So I am sure that 901 won't sound worse than DX100. if the battery is about 11-12 hrs. I will get it with no hesitation

You hope it will sound as good or better and you hope the battery will last longer. Time will tell but for now the DX100 is one of the best audio portable single player. I myself will demo the Hifiman 901 or 802 when it comes out. I did listen to the 801 and it was nice but it was not better then the DX100. Quote:

It's also very important how you pair players with phones. 801 is very good for IEMs with bright sound or airy treble because of its full and lush sound. 801 + Game is truly one of the best system I have heard for sensitive IEMs.

Well, it's funny you should mention that, because I'm finding the DX100 can sound a little cold at times with my Miracles. The DX100 does sound excellent in many other areas of it's presentation, though.

I've never heard the 801 in any of its incarnations but I know it is considered to sound quite lush and 'analogue' in character.

The Miracles are total chameleons so I'm curious to try SE-5 and MG6Pro wit the DX100

Some people may not agree because they want to carry around a single unit solution and not a bomb.

That's why I said "OPTION" - I walk 90 mins everyday and I can't see the problem in carrying a portable amp, I guess it depends whether you always carry a bag or not
and to work, I do.

They could offer two versions, a line out version, and a headphone version.
And the line-out version would be cheaper!!

I highly doubt that HiFiMAN or any other producer of DAP's will make a DAP with line out only. If the HPO is of high quality there is no need for an external amp, except for extremely hard to drive full size headphones, which will be used at home anyway.
