Pandorum: 6/10

I'm a die hard Sci Fi guy ... so take that into account.

A decent bit of genre fare.

Not nearly as good as Serenity ... not as good as Sunshine ... but still ... sort of barking down that trail.

I didn't regret the seven dollars a bit.

(and the ending is lovely)

Jus' sayin...

The last movie I watched was CJ7.

9/10 - I watched it more than once and still enjoy this movie. This is rare for me...

Ponyo - 9/10

SO*CUTE. Loved the animation, the imaginitiveness, the creativity. I thought they should have developed the mother more but whatever.

Also saw Moon a second time and enjoyed it just as much as the first.

Star Trek (2009) - 7/10

Interesting ensemble they put here. A bit awkward, but it works and most of the characters were written and developed well enough for what the film needed.

Most of the parts with the villains were boring, but I liked watching the crew of the Enterprise at work. Using Leonard Nimoy was a nice touch, and it actually contributed to the film positively instead of being a simple nostalgic turn. Simon Pegg was terribly underused though.

Nice pace, good action, some light comedy and a bit of typical drama. Mediocre story, but the film was indeed a breath of fresh air for the Star Trek franchise and it was definitely entertaining.

This movie just made me angry - what they did visually on a shoestring budget blows so many movies with 3-4x the money completely out of the water. What is everyone else doing?

It was supposed to be the Halo movie but things fell through so they took it in a new direction of its' own.

You might recognize some of the aliens, weapons, and vehicles

I don't really think District 9 has anything to do with Halo or ever did.

From wikipedia: "Producer Peter Jackson planned to produce a film adaptation based on the Halo video game franchise with first-time director Neill Blomkamp. Due to lack of financing, the Halo adaptation was placed on hold. Jackson and Blomkamp discussed pursuing alternate projects and eventually chose to produce and direct District 9, respectively."

District 9 is an expanded version of Blomkamp's short film "Alive in Joberg"

Factotum - 7/10 - semi-autobiographical by Charles Bukowski. It's good but has a weird sort of 'leaving las vegas prequel' feel to it.

Agreed.

I went and saw District 9 and really enjoyed it.

8.25/10

I recently watched Pan's Labyrinth, Resevoir Dogs, and The Boat That Rocked. All 9/10 in my opinion, TBTR maybe an 8.5 as it isn't something that most people would say is equal to the others mentioned but it was a film I genuinely enjoyed and had fun watching.
