Well then you are obviously ignorant, a racist, only listen to Rock from the radio and have not gone through every single genre of rock! Because how else can someone think badly of any particular genre? You my friend are not a real music fan!

What you need to do is listen to a list of my favorite groups. Because everyone likes what I listen to!

If you don't find anything you like from my list of my favorite artist the you are obviously everything I said you are (see first sentence)

As for 50 Cent and P Diddy, there is not doubt that they are little more than modern day minstrel shows. Except this time we dont need the blackface, because they are willing to do it on their own. They are no doubt an extreme embarrassment to their culture, and to the world as a whole. They have set back race relations 50 years. But, they do not represent in any way the current state of the art in rap music. Apparently, no matter how often this is stated people choose to ignore it.

I dont know if its 50 or diddys fault, they were given the opportunity to make it out and get rich. First of all no one runs diddy, and he has never hurt the black culture. He never promotes guns n drugs, he cant rap. He has been a good role model for children.
Now 50 not so much, white people loved him. He is what set back the black race 50 years. Now everyone wants to be gangsta, sell drugs, and shoot eachother. And every other rapper now is promoting the same thing. Filling the jails with more and more young black children trying to do the same kinda things, this is called the trap. Its almost like the new crack. Like Juelz says "Im crack in the flesh" somethin like that dipsht sucks. But they are also ruining the black community even more than 50 in the same ways though.

I love rap as much as everything else. Some of the more violent rap I don't like, but I LOVE old school gangsta rap. Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Doggy Dog, Eazy-E, Compton's Most Wanted, NWA, etc.

Basically - I like the kind of rap that was on the Office Space soundtrack. That laid-back, west coast - BUT still gangsta, rap.

The newer stuff - 50 Cent, etc. I don't really listen to the lyrics, but I LOVE the beats. I'm into electronic music too. I won't listen to a 50 Cent song for 50 cent; I'll listen to it to hear a beat from Scott Storch, Timbaland, etc.

I also like Wu-Tang, Tupac, Three 6 Mafia, etc.

But realize - I don't listen to (most) rap expecting to take it seriously. I take it at face value for what it is and just enjoy it that way. Just like I don't play a Nickelback song expecting to be blown away at how good it is. It's commercial and fun. Nothing more.

As long as that quote is dripping in sarcasm, I completely agree. Everything Diddy is and has ever stood for has been bad for America and the world. He just might be the Anti-Christ.

I like some rap =).
I dislike rock though...I really have tried to listen to rock.

rap music is like graffitti. some of it is insightful and interesting. most of it is ugly and just further dehumanizes an already bleak urban mindscape.

That's how I feel about rock.
I've listened to ACDC,Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Guns N Roses, and Mettalica and others from the "last song before I die" thread. I like maby 1-2 songs from each of them. Used those list as they must be good to be the absolute last one..

Now I don't just listen to Rap either. More like the RnB sounding rap.
This me list...
Reggaeton=Spanish RnB>Duranguense=Nortenas>Rap>Rock>Classical>Metal

This is why I’m hot(x2)

LOL. Ya, that's what mainstream rap has come to these days. However, when Funk Master Flex decides to "take it back to the 90s," you can be damn sure that's what I'm listening to.

I voted for the second option. I respect rap as a musical form, but it just aint my cup of tea. A lot of times, if I'm listening to rap, it has to have some sort of intellegence to be enjoyable. But then, I find my mind working too hard just to enjoy the music. So I go back to lying down in my bed and listening to chilled-out trip-hop/downtempo/ambient beats I can relax to, cuz that's the type of person I am

I gotta say, however, that part of the reason I enjoy trip-hop/downtempo/ambient so much is because of the noticable influence rap/hip hop has had on them, particularly since I was once a hip hop fan. Sort of like hearing my new music pay homage to my old music.

So I'm willing to offer up a mix to anyone who is really opposed to rap due to what they've heard on the radio. I think a small sampler of some really good music could be good for you and might open you up to some other types of aural pleasure that's out there.

I grew up on a healthy diet of hip-hop. The first tape I bought was A Tribe Called Quest's Low End Theory, sp yeah, I have loved hip hop for a while, but am also pretty upset with the direction the genre has moved into. This doesn't mean there aren't some great albums out there, but its a whole new game out there, its turned into pop music. Just like my grandparents were upset by rock and roll, i'm sure there are you who are upset by "Rap music". You have to understand that rap started as story-telling about what was really happening in their life. Its been degraded into songs just pushing an unattainable pipe dream, but that's neither here nor there. Listen to these songs with an open ear and open mind.

Songs to check out and definitely listen to their lyrics and music, hip hop is an art of both, not poetry over samples, its what happens when you combine the flow of one's voice with a story and a beat. The whole is much greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Jay-Z - December 4th
Outkast - Git Up Git Out
A Tribe Called Quest - Buggin' Out
Aesop Rock - Daylight
All Natural - 50 Years
Atmosphere - Love Life
Ayentee - Kill my Soul
Binary Star - Reality Check
Blackalicious - Make you feel that way
Busta Rhymes - Woo Hah!!
Cunninlynguists - America Loves Gangstas
Gang Starr - Above the clouds
Jay-Z - Heart of the City (Ain't no Love)
KRS One - MCs Act like They Dont Know
Louis Logic - Dos Factotium
MF Doom - Doomsday
Non Phixion - Futurama
Pharoe Monch - The Truth

Snoop Doggy Dod - Think about it
Sould of Mischief - 93' til infinity
Clipse - Hello New World
Dead Prez - Hip Hop
Dungeon Family - Crooked Booty
Public Enemy - Burn Hollywood Burn
Big L - Flamboyant
Eric B and Rakin - Paid in Full

I could go on and on, but Hip Hop can be a great art form, type of entertainment, social protest, etc .. do a little research on the music that's out there, you might find that you'll approach the music with a different mind set and different appreciation for it.
