Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A

Just want to share that my journey with SR1a and the rest of my equipment has found me the perfect sound I was looking for all this while. A combination of hardware and software really brings out the best of SR1a. So here goes my chain:

- iMac M1 as Roon core
- Roon with PEQ and headroom adjusment applied (based on Amir’s EQ plus my personal adjustment for high shelf)
- Lumin T2 streamer/DAC as Roon endpoint
- Manley 300B preamp with Mullard CV1377 rectifiers, Tung Sol 6SU7GTY preamp tubes, Western Electric 300B new production tubes
- Bakoon 13R amp
- SR1a

This combo to my ears has a very “complete” sound, plenty of bass, lifelike mid-range and vocals with zero sibilance, incredibly natural treble with lots of energy. It’s perfect for my music genres i.e classical, jazz, some pop and high-res remixed The Beatles albums 😁

However this doesn’t mean that I will stop listening to other headphones, still very much love my Susvara, eagerly waiting for the TC to arrive, and excited for Raal-C. I’m attaching the PEQ if anyone is interested in trying it out. Edit: forgot to add that the PEQ should include -7.1 dB headroom adjustment in Roon.
bakoon 13r with sr1a?

I have an amp with power meters, the CODA #8. When I switch from my floor standers to the RAAL I could see that the RAAL is using much more power than even my hard to drive floorstanders. I spoke to Danny at Requiste on this and he also says a 2 channel amp should have a lot of power for the RAAL. My CODA #8 is 150 | 300 | 600 watts @ 8 | 4 | 2.

I do not use the CODA #8 with the RAAL anymore since I use a KRELL K-300i integrated amp. The KRELL has the biggest bass of all my amps and it is also buttery smooth (first 90 watts in Class A). Brilliant with he SR1a.

The AHB2 are awful with the SR1a and only sounded good to great with the Convolution filter and a warm preamp.

I do need to remind myself to drive over to my friend's and hook up my SR1a to his OG Krell Monoblocks :L3000:

Has any of You laid your head on the pillow whilst listening to Sr1a? It basically makes Raals circumaural to some extent (depending on how hard you hit the pillow behind your head). The sound is fuller with more prominent bass but not at the expense of that superior speed and transparency and naturalness and effortless SR1a offer. I expect the new model to sound a bit similar to what I have just experienced and I'm ready to be blown away :)

Yes I'm using sr1a with a support/pillow on a recliner or bed.
The support creates a seal which gives more full sound & better body.

I also have high expectations on the new model. Question is, if it is indeed very good, should I have both or just keep the new model? Always a tough choice 😁

Hadn't thought of that. What a great idea!
