Thank you so much! I'm so glad I registered on this forum because, to my shame, I didn't realize there were gain switches on the bottom of the 18th. They were all in the "standard" position, I switched them to the "low level" position - and it's a completely different experience, it had a very positive effect on the sound.

I'll check how this affects the brightness, because it's more comfortable to listen now.

Thank you so much for the recommendation, I'll start looking at copper cables and that brand you mentioned.
I misspelled. The company is Arctic Audio as you can see by my signature.
I am using a silver / copper hybrid.

Hey everyone! It's me again (sorry if I'm getting annoying with all my questions).

I'm currently pondering whether I should set the gain switches (those on the bottom of the CA 18 Master) to "standard" or "low". As a reminder, they're set to "standard" by default.

Here's my dilemma: When these switches are set to "low", I have a much wider range of volume control. However, I'm wondering if this will affect the sound quality?

My headphones are the HE-1000SE and HD-800s.

Perhaps owners or a company representative could tell me, is the "low" gain setting sufficient for these headphones? Or would it be better for the sound to leave it at "standard"?

P.S.
I'm continuing to burn in all my devices (both headphones and the CMA 18 Master; it's been about 50-60 hours now). By the way, I'm noticing that the brightness is decreasing a bit.

You should be fine. I don't think there's much of a difference of sound quality. But keep in mind, whenever you flip the switches on the bottom, make sure the unit is completely powered off.

@Questyle If you use an external dac and rca into the cma fifteen could you then preamp out of the cma fifteen to an external amplifer in studio voltage? So it would look liek
external dac rca out > rca in cma fifteen > cma fifteen preamp out studio voltage > external amplifier
Hi JooLoo --

I checked with our engineers, they say "CMA Fifteen does work as per the described scenario".

Thanks!
Mike

I'm still hesitating between buying the questyle cma eighteen or a violectric V222 amp and a separate dac

I got destroyed selling my CMA Fifteen on the secondary market. Longest time it’s ever taken for me to sell an audio product and I dropped my original price by almost $1000 to get rid of it.

For those that have and love it I’d recommend keeping it. A friend of mine owns a 400i and asked me if he should sell. I checked the market and they are going for around $300. Ridiculous value for such a great product.
I agree 💯 when I found a 800i that sat and sat and sat on the for sle forum for 380.00 I couldn't believe it was still available when I was finally able to come up with the money, I bought it and I consider it to be the best audio purchase I've ever made! Its SQ (amp section) easily on the 2.5-3k range! Amazing dac as well, Wolfson I believe

Yeah. The Questyle product lineup is highly underrated and under reviewed. I regret selling the CMA Fifteen. The further I go down the rabbit hole of source gear I’m realizing that source pairings and synergy are super important.

Questyle still suffers from the bad service period when reorganizing their company. They had such bad customer communication that people bombed them and they got forgotten.

I love their products and still owning the 400i
