SRM-1 gets mad hot, so it helps, but I also put in under the amp to get a little more space for all the wires in the back. I got wood thing at a store that sells kitchen stuff, this is actually a cutting board.

It looks very nice, is very heavy and sturdy and was about $15. For my speaker system I got two marble cutting boards to put under my CDP and DAC, reduces vibration and looks nice as well: $12 each.
