SoC is Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 according to that video (under "processor info" msm8974pro-ab is listed).

And according to this link (with Google Translate):

It's launching this November and runs 10 hours battery on hi-res. No digital out is disappointing, but it will have USB Audio out as shown in the video.

... It means we don't have the same definition of a DAP. To me it's the modern version of a Walkman which means it has to fit in my pocket. When in my bed I control foobar from my MotoX.

You have probably been lucky, not suffered illness and have to spend time during the day in bed. If you have, you may well want better sound than a phone provides. And for people content with a phone, no real need for a DAP other than maybe more storage anyway.

Little DAP, like this?

Nice that we are getting all shapes and sizes now. Customer wins. My old Sony A808 does look tiny now!

mmm......there's so many players out there that I don't understand the fuss about anything, really. If anything, we have an ever expanding buffet of choices. QP1R, Fiio X7, this.....and others that have yet to be revealed. IOWs, there's something for everyone. So, why nitpick????? Exciting times ahead for those looking for new DAPs. And, yes, we win. I still remember when Hifiman introduced the HM 801 (which I still have). It was the first true hifi DAP. Ugly as hell but it was the antidote that I was looking for in a sea of subpar MP3 players and the market-dominating iPods. Be glad that Pioneer is entering the DAP field. The more, the merrier.

Not everyone wants a PC in their bedroom, I certainly don't. It's all about choice, if someone doesn't want small or large DAP, choose another. But Digital Audio Player doesn't have to be pocketable.

801 + 4.7" screen and 10 hrs of battery life? Wow, that is pretty good!

Why do you guys need digital out? To use it at home as a Dac? Doesn't it make more sense to have a Dac for home purposes? If you want to use the dap as a transport mighty as well use usb. The price is right on this one. Looks like a large ak240 for left handers. I like the top bumper as it can help protect the hphone jack.

Hi all, we have just had news arrive in from IFA that the XDP100R will in fact retail for £499 and not the original £379 that we were told. Pricing has been amended online.

A higher price, and no hope for digital out... :(

umm whats with the 'cant pocket' sentiments
if a 5.5" phone + case is pocketable, then surely this is too.
They are not going to fill the case up with air, so its either electronics or battery, both of which id be happy to lug around...
For now, this seems like better value than the new Sony ZX100 on face value (sound uncertain)
