I guess instead of saying some thing is "portable", we should call it "pocketable".  That is, unless you wear those sagging Hip Hop pants or something... with pockets that large... an old JVC Boombox is pocketable.

I think the difference is when you use the word portable or mobile. Even those huge generators used in camping trips are called "portable."
