Very nice I'm impressed. Were you able to do this straight out of the box or was rooting needed to enable this feature?

Stock Kernel. I'm doing the same thing. The Galaxy S3 thread on here has been abuzz with it for awhile. I'll post my rig soon enough :)

wow..look cool .. how much for this stuff ?

Which stuff? If you're referring to my S3 rig that's about $2500USD, most of that expense tied up in the headphones (phone+pico+T5p+64GB card) . Still sounds very respectable with cheaper headphones and DAC/amp too (I was previously using a FiiO E7 and Senn HD25-1 II from it, about $800USD in total for phone+E7+Senns).

Can't wait for 128GB micro SDXC cards, since that will let me go all FLAC on local storage (at present about 30% FLAC and use a Seagate GoFlex Satellite with it from time to time).

Got the last part of my portable rig today, very happy right now :)

[EDIT: Obviously when I say last part of the rig that isn't true, I would like some tidier cable options, need to investigate that next...]

Bit different than most here with full-sized cans and an Android device:

Galaxy S3 --> USB audio --> Pico USB DAC/amp --> Beyerdynamic T5p.

Only had the briefest of chances to listen before work, but wowed by it so far. Can't wait until lunch and an uninterrupted hour of listening!

Wow! That must sound good! By-passing both DAC and Amplifier making it desktop quality! NICE!

Well well well looks like I have a huge +1 for the S3. If I can mate if with anything to my harts desire I'm quite sold

It's not working universally with everything - see the Android USB audio thread, DanBa has collated all the currently testing and working with S3 USB DACs there. It's worked with most things that people have tried though. That said, you really want something with it's own internal power supply as the S3 may not supply enough power to some DACs and will of course run out of battery more quickly if it is supplying the power (more an issue for the S3 as a player than other devices, since it's probably going to be your phone also and you're generally going to be loath to run down your phone completely where you mightn't care with a standalone DAP). I really appreciate that its sound quality can scale to your budget and your needs though (as can it's storage, particularly when 128GB cards come, hopefully this year).

When they first come out though they will in no way be cost-effective or budgeted towards your average joe. I bet they will be in the $300+ dollar range upon release. They always milk it in the very beginning. To be honest they should be ashamed of themselves for such practices at all. But there are people out there willing to pay such premiums...

If Samsung cold put out a DAP with USB out and expandable storage I'd throw my iPods out.

I'm pretty sure they don't "milk it". But mass production costs escalate proportionately with data density and demand is limited. This means that the latest and greatest will be more expensive pr. GB until they manage to produce them more cost-effectively.

lol I don't buy into that at all. If they had them at a lower price to begin with they would obviously sell a lot more from the start. There's no way these multi-billion dollar companies can't afford it. It is they want to make more money for less initially. Then when people start catching on and stop buying, they lower prices accordingly or they will eventually lose money on these products.. It's always about the dollar. When you mass produce items your costs will always be greatly reduced compared to producing a small amount of the very same product. But if they are intending to start off slow and not produce a lot then of course that will raise the prices. But when you think of it that is their own doing then that is raising the costs significantly. Who knows they could very well be testing the market. But you'd think they should know of the results since we've started from what  2 GB and now are at 64... :P

Bit of both I think, I think they certainly do add a bit of a premium for early adopters, but in large part other things like the points you raise are what elevates the price.

I'll get one at release, just like I have every other generation of cards since 4GB cards (was one of the first to confirm that 64GB micro SDXC cards were working with existing devices, even though manufacturers were stating maximum storage was 32GB http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYUg14u_co8 - many still are!).

Look up how processors are made... Some are stable at 4Ghz, others only make it up to 3.5Ghz. Then they are sold at different prices - more make the cut for 3.5GHz than 4GHz, so the 4GHz units are more expensive. You don't just "do" 128gb on a MicroSD card. Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_device_fabrication - Notice the bit about wafer yield. As production techniques improve, the wafer yield improves as well, bringing down the cost.

Interesting read. But if they are able to produce 64GB cards then why not apply the same concept to the newer cards. I do understand though if they have to change the methods the cards are made (due to space constraints).

Pick up a piece of paper and fold it 7 times. If you can do that, why not fold it 8 times?
