Pictures Of Your Portable Rig (part XV)
Jan 26, 2012 at 11:42 PM Post #3,421 of 7,509

My first real rig: iP4S w/ ALAC, DIY LOD, TTVJ Slim, SM3 V1's, and HD 25-1 II's. Not pictured: RE 262's

And I'm sorry to report that what many of you have heard is correct; there is virtually no sonic improvement when amping the SM3's. The HD 25's open up a bit and the RE262's really shine with the Slim. But the SM3's (whose signature I love the most) did nothing...NOTHING! I'm heartbroken...

Rocked up to work Old Skool today - well partly:

I thought I would do a size comparison for all the amp nay sayers (?) Not great photos - but the walkman is bigger. That was the point I intended on making... For those of us old enough to remeber carrying one of these around, portable gear really has come on some.

Did I just get Rickrolled?

When you have to ask, the answer is probably yes, and the person who did it is probably awesome.

I have an idea...

Ipod -> tape adapter -> walkman -> headphone amp -> headphones

Write on the walkman "Tube Emulator", acquire cash.

Ha! Terrific plan. You better patent it before someone else cashes in.

How well does the TTVJ Slim go with the HD25?

Well I've only had experience with the HD25's ampless and with the Slim, so my perspective is limited, but I did find the HD25's opened up a lot more with the Slim. To both good and bad effect. As many have already mentioned the HD25's are on the bright side. Paired with the Slim they're even brighter. I even notice some sibilance with some tracks, though not all. The lows are extended too though, so there's that. Also, the HD25's are "punchier" with the Slim. Snare drums seem to pop a little more, piano chords linger a little longer, vocals aren't so recessed. It's all very subtle but definitely perceptible.

How's that for a nebulous impression? "Punchier?" See what head-fi does to you?

First post! 240gb ipod 5.5G, ibasso P4, ath-esw9
Nothing fancy, but it's my moveable feast :)

Nice! I'm in the process of installing a 120gb hard drive in mine, but I can't get iTunes to recognize it when I plug it into my computer. Anyone else have this problem?
