my impression are the s639=2D,X-1050=3D.
the treble is incredibly detailed and natural.i dun think u can find any fault with this player as far as sound quality is concern.

I'm in the middle of a buy-all-new period. I've noticed that hardly anyone has the K601/K701 along with a portable amp.

Getting my iPod Nano 5G tomorrow and since I'm interested in buying the D10 + LOD along with a pair of K601 I'm just wondering - will the D10 be able to drive those cans?

This is going to be my portable and home rig.

Yeah, there's a very good reason for that. Can't speak for the K701 but the K601 sounds like **** with every portable amp I've ever tried. The Headamp AE-1 was best but really it's just not worth it.

I was afraid of that answer... I really liked the K701 when I tried them out, and I think to me the K601's won't be much different.

Do anyone know of a good supplement to the K701/K601 for portables? $200-$300 (gotta be new). I like big ear pads, and grados don't look very comfy.

Want my real advice? Skip the portable amp and go straight for custom IEM's driven from a DAP.

how well does your ipod drive those?

i was wondering the same thing... they're pretty high impedance rated and can't imagine the ipod driving them too well.

It crossed my mind, but honestly, it was the fastest crossing I've seen

I don't like IEM's. The bigger the cans the better

If you must have large, open cans running from a dap go for Grados or Goldrings or something else that's easily driven. Maybe one of the open ATH's. High-end open Sennheisers and AKGs just don't seem like a good idea.

...it doesn't. The iPod volume needs to be maxed and then the sound is just OK..."thin", but still better than driving a crappy HP. I'd rather plug my HD 25 straight into iPod, it sounds better. My SR-71A amp+iPod drives my big Senns(HD 650) very nicely.
