Usually I'm a strong supporter of "EQ or GTFO" - but I have to say those two things synergize extremely well, even without EQ. The Hippo VB have maybe the deepest, most impactful sub-bass of all IEMs I know, without any midbass bloat or overly much veil. Exciting quality sound!

Does it beat your UE11 in this area?

I just did a little AB comparison... the Hippo probably don't really go deeper than the UE11 on the Clip+ - but they have less midbass hump than the UE11, which makes them appear to extend deeper. It also makes the Hippo appear a tiny bit tighter, punchier. They do have a bit more bass quantity than the UE11, which probably helps the illusion as well.

Damn notoriously hard to drive UE11 with their too low impedance, too high sensitivity, and whatever else that won't play nice without a quality amp... UE11 (and most other multi-armature IEMs I know) are basically anti-synergy with any portable player.

Too bad I sold my Atrios a long time ago, I can't compare them anymore. But yeah, the Atrios were the last IEMs I got excited about their insane quantity of bass - that still was high quality. The VB sure have a bass that's in the same league.

I might get Senn IE8 soon, that should make a nice comparison.

It's nice to see crossroads making above-par headphones again. Thinking i might pick these up when there are a couple more reviews up.

Scratched up old iPod (FULL of music! So it's all good

) - about to be Invisible Shielded! Should hide some scratches

FiiO E5. Not always used.
FiiO low profile LOD.
Livewires.
NuForce Ne-6's (arrived today, replacing CX300's as beaters for around school when customs aren't as viable/handy.)
Sennheiser MX500 buds (Good for podcasts and lessons when people don't stop trying to talk to me when i'm tuned into some music!)
iSkin Evo 3 skin. Blue. Not pictured.

Waiting for my Denon's and NuForce Icon Mobile to arrive, then i'm getting a FiiO E1, which I plan to always pair with my iPod, as the controls will be useful, and it'll drive the PK1/2's I'm considering getting to replace the MX500's. Around the house and in bed the Nuforce Icon Mobile will get alot of use with the iPod and laptop with the soon-to-arrive D1k's
