Looks like crap, but sounds
godlike.
Even placed in the corner of a humble bedroom and without any room treatments or EQ yet, this speaker system
destroys every headphone system I've heard, no matter how expensive. (Read through my profile to see that I've owned/heard a decent percentage of the most well-regarded high-end headphones.)
active studio monitor speakers: JBL LSR305
DAC: Chord 2Qute
passive preamp: Schiit SYS
speaker stands: Samson MS200
USB power isolator: Schiit Wyrd
laptop computer: Alienware M11x R2
dedicated dual boot operating system: Windows Server 2016 Standard Core
optimization software: AudiophileOptimizer 2.20 Beta 5
hard drive array: Buffalo DriveStation Quad 12 TB
The original MSRP of everything was around five or six thousand, depending on whether you count the hard drive array. The main reason I got a high-end DAC before upgrading the speakers is because the ones I want next are $5,500. One step at a time, as they say...
Update: The speakers are now placed in a diagonal configuration, further away from me and firing down the room. It's even more impressive overall this way, but without room treatments, each placement causes its own acoustic issues.
