Philips SHE3580 IEM review--how can something sound so good for $10???

I tried the radians kit also, but not with the philips headphones (I tried the MP 8320).  The kit from the earplug store comes with a foam plug that you put in your ear and a syringe to inject the silicon into your ear.  With this, you get a tip that goes deep into the canal.  With the radians kit, you can't always be sure that the earphone is perfectly aimed at your ear canal.  This is the problem I kept having.  By using the casting/mold method, I drilled a hole and used the heatshrink to make sure the earphone was pointed directly at my ear canal.

Anyone have sansa clip zip rockboxed eq config equal to joe postpofit eq settings? Please share...
This earphone was good with default eq, but the cable is sucks...

For those who are interested in getting these, here are a list of places and prices I've found these:
 
CVS (B&M and online): $15
Office Max (B&M and online): $15
Target (B&M only): $15
TJ Maxx (B&M only, only some locations): $7
 
I got mine at Office Max when I had a $5 off coupon because the closest TJ Maxx didn't have them.  I was in a different TJ Maxx the other day and saw them for $7.  Almost bought a second pair!

Did any of you ever try the Philips SHS8000/100?
 
I have these and I think they are pretty good. As you can see on my signature, I have a Sennheiser HD555, and while the Sennheiser is better (more detailed across the whole range, more neutral), they are definitely not ~10x better than the SHS8000 as the price would imply. Heck, I'd have a hard time saying they are 3x better. (I know, these are completely arbitrary units, but you get the idea

Now my father wants some cheap in-ears, and I'm considering getting him these SHE3570/80/90. Can anyone compare them against the SHS8000/100?

I have the SHE8005 (mic'd version of 8000 I think?) and don't think they are anything special. More bloated midbass than 35xx

No, I said SHS8000, they are completely different.

So, I tried the SHE3500 today (black with blue tips, in case you're wondering). I didn't test extensively, though I did some equalization by ear (and it turned out pretty similar to your Android EQ - which is a good sign I guess, I wasn't aiming for it at all).
 
It sounded okay, but I honestly think my SHS8000 is better. I thought the SHE3500 sounded a bit harsh and sibilant, especially without EQ (but then again, I'm usually very sensible to harsh treble). The SHS8000 sounds closer to my reference (HD555) out of the box, and I can get it even closer with EQ.
 
I'm not a huge believer of burn-in but maybe, just maybe, that's the reason the SHE3500 sounded harsh... If my opinion changes in the future, I'll report back.
I mean, I guess it's good for a $10 IEM, but I didn't find it as impressive as some of you do, sadly (I really really wanted to)...

Sorry to seem pedantic - but you wrote about the Philips SHE3500 - when this thread is about the SHE3580 -
are you sure they are the same? - they do look very, very similar in pictures -
but by doing a bit of googling I found the pdf leaflets (links given) for both:

It seems the specs say they are different both in frequency response, and sensitivity -
the two areas that do make significant and noticeable sonic differences.

I don't know, from what I gathered here the whole 35xx series was supposed to sound the same.
 
So maybe that's the reason... (though I really doubt they sound that different)

The spec's of the SHE3800 actually are different from those of the SHE3580 -
Frequency response: 12 - 22,500 Hz (SHE3500) vs 12 - 23 500 Hz (SHE3580)
Sensitivity: 100 dB (SHE3500) vs 102 dB (SHE3580)
so they ARE different IEMs.
 
Do you have a pair of SHE3580 to compare, please?

Having trawled though this thread and forum in general, I would say yes. From what I have gathered, the SHE3590 is the sucessor to the now discontinued (?) SHE3580. The difference between them is only cosmetic, with the newer SHE3590 coming in more colors.
 
Sound-wise - they are same
