Philips SHE3580 IEM review--how can something sound so good for $10???

They were just examples, and he didnt say he was looking for 'sub-bass rumble'. It still comes down to budget. Is there anything stopping me paying someone to reshell these drivers into a custom earpiece and proclaiming them as the 'greatest dynamic earphone in the history of the universe' ?

Yesterday after reading this thread, i bought a set of the new iphone friendly £18 version of these buds, the SHE3595. They fit well, sound good and they have a mic and single button on the cable which works great with the iPhone4. I'm happy using the volume buttons on the side of the iphone, but having the ability to "start/stop/skip forward/skip back" is so useful, so i recommend these for any iPhone4 users wanting on-cable controls.

I mainly listen to electronic music and I do find these buds a little thin sounding, so as the OP said, i'll look at getting an iPhone EQ app to bring those mids up a touch.

Update - I installed the EQU iphone app yesterday and its awesome. I worked on a profile for these 3595s that i'm really happy with.

I am a little late to this party but I saw a pair of Philips SHE3575 at T.J. Maxx for $7 and scooped it up. It sounds much better than a $7 phone. While the bass and treble are impressive, I am struck by how clear the mids are having a quick listen to "Everything Must Go" by Steely Dan. With no break in period at all they are very clear and full. Great find!

Just got the she3580, loves the sound very much. But I do hate the cable, too stiff and too much microphonics.
Is the new version she3590 with the same cable? If not, I would be happy to buy one more pair.

You can buy some snake oil for that, softens it straight up.

The mic'd versions of these are called SHE3575, SHH3580 and SHE3595. Not guaranteed to sound the same as the SHE3580. I actually found the SHH3580 to be more balanced than the SHE3580. Might even be the better phones overall.
