Philips Fidelio X2?!

The X2 went on sale for $200 not long ago. Later, I saw tons of negative reviews on Amazon saying the manufacturing had gotten worse and that the earpads are glued on now and not replaceable, as well as some other flaws.

Are all new X2's like this?

I'm going to replace it once more in 2-3 weeks when some of the stock moves, if it's the same thing (offset rings, etc), I'm going to give up and just have it as is. All of them sound fantastic despite the QC flaws though.

I'm sorry I also returned it. Because on my setup (Explorer line out to A6 amp.), it's no better than my 9500. soundstage is a little bit larger than 9500, dynamic is a little bitter. But 9500 has better middle and high. Most important, to my ear, 9500 sounds much natural and musical than X2! At least for classical/symphony. I saw people modded the cushion and bass improved a lot.

X2 scales better than 9500 meaning X2 can sound better with a better source and a better amp

I'm not sure X2 scales better than 9500. At least I know 9500 pair very well with my setup. To my ear, Explorer line out with a good amp. is obvious better than Modi 1. My amp. is very good. It can fully drive 9500. 9500 used to sound congested but on my amp., it has great separation and larger soundstage, just a little bit smaller than X2. That set-up works well even with HD650. I cannot believe it's not enough for X2. I can see overall the SQ of X2 is better than 9500, but It definitely cannot justify ~4 times the price of 9500. If my X2 has no SQ issue, what I can say is its sound is definitely not my taste. TO my ear, 9500 sounds much natural than it.

This is what my set of X2's look like. I got mine from Amazon when they were on sale for $200. The box says Gibson but the headphone band says Woox.
There is a tiny amount of glue on the ear pads but overall everything is perfect. They sound great and are super super comfy.

Off topic. I really like your Rotel pre/power combo and KEF loudspeakers. Heaven

Looks like you won the X2 lottery with that set, looking good.
