Petition: I would like the old site back (or other choice)

I don't think it's the forum's fault if some ppl post 7MP pictures...

and it would indeed be nice if they could somehow make a vbulletin-copy cat layout...for transition sake's, as I understand that head-fi is not the only forum that will migrate.

I'm getting used to the new format, but I would like to see the search functions improved. Just making it default to showing the topics that were most recently posted would be a start.

Think of people accessing the site from their cellphones or other mobile internet means. Helping noobs being lazy by allowing them to upload huge unedited pics straight from their digicams (and not resizing them in-site) is probably not the best application for clogging the inter-tubes. It's kind of bad practice.

I agree with you.

Good idea.

But I'm used to the new format already, so it would be a non issue for me.

RE:  Subscriptions:  it would be nice if the link in the subscription e-mail would take you to the post it's alerting you to instead of the first post in the thread.

Good find. Better than nothing I suppose.

I was wondering too since my ignore list was gone... you have to click on the person's nick, you can ignore them with a link on their user profile. Absurd way of handling this, but it works. I didn't find a centralized ignore list though, one where you see every ignored user at a glance.

Lovely conspiracy theory, but nonsense.  Yahoo APIs are open source and free to access directly from Yahoo.  They are used in quite a bit of web software, often with the option of having them loaded from the web site or from Yahoo (to save bandwidth).

Did you read jude's post a couple of pages ago?

Wow, dude, miss the point often?

It has NOTHING - repeat, NOTHING - to do with whether or not the API is open source.  Did I mention that issue at all?

Nope.

The ISSUE is that the Yahoo API is completely JavaScript and AJAX-dependent, versus the previous vBulletin code.  Therefore, both UI operational functionality and apparent speed of the interface depends entirely upon the user's JS VM implementation and accuracy.  On systems where the JS VM implementation is not optimal - such as Internet Explorer and almost all mobile platforms - user experience of this web site is going to suffer.

Tremendously.

So this is the source of some of the debate: each user is probably getting a different web experience from this site due to their web browser's rendering and the JS VM interpreting accuracy.  Some users are saying "The new site sucks" while others are saying "The new site is not bad and simply needs acclimatisation"...probably because we are seeing many different user experiences of the same code.

I am the same, the site works great on Chrome. The only feature I would like to see back is the pages for the posts. Also, some threads let me go to my last post, but others do not. Why is that? (It will be something I have done!) Oh and spell check does not work. I am told if I have spelled something wrong, but not given the correct spelling.

I new I was an old fart but now it is proven! I still can not get used to the new layout and much prefer the old one, I realize it is a non-issue because there is no going back. However that does not stop me from wishing ...

sure, there are some things i don't like as well as the old site.
i miss thread icons, just for example.

but, all the added options, plus the head gear section, make the switch very positive for me.

google chrome has a great javascript engine though, and i hear the newest chrome 5 beta made it even faster, though im on a mac and cant get it. Safari is pretty good with JS as well though, which is what i use on a day to day basis.

One thing that i do like about the new site, is that on some threads with vBulletin, it would say there was an extra page but when you clicked on it it would just take you to the same page you were on, i got that alot on the anime thread and the metal thread, and the whatre you listening to now thread. but on this new platform i havent seen that at all. So i guess there are a few perks. i also like the new PM system alot better with its threaded messaging so you dont just have quoting madness going on like some of my pm convo's had.

I do second the motion that the subscription emails take you to the first new post though, or that when you are viewing your subscriptions on the home page that there was a way to get the first unread post, rather than just last post or first post. there is even a counter that tells you how many posts there have been, so its not like the system doesnt know which one is the last one you read.

Where are the AKG K240 DF, Sony MDR V6, Sennheiser HD4x8-series and many other headphones that some people have? I still do not understand that the AKG K240 DF and Monitor are unmentioned, let alone the respectable V6. To me it looks like there was a list, a bit random combined with some popular headphones. This is Head-Fi, some of the venerable headphones are missing which is a shame.

You can add items that you feel are missing.

Currently my only problem is difficulty to post using my cellphone from work or between cases.  My android based-incredible the screen just darkens a bit or says "please wait"(from the site) but never posts + seems to drain out the cell battery when waiting.  My itouch posts occasionally but others(most of the time) just goes back to the thread and keeps the post in the posting box.  Kind of frustrating when you want to chime in.  Otherwise I actually like it better now, seems easier for me to use on my computers.

The inconsistencies/problems when using mobile browsers in particular (like the iPhone / iPad) are being addressed.  We should see updates that help there soon, and optimizations over time after that.

As I've stated in other threads (and maybe this one, too), this is a big issue for me, as so much of my browsing/moderating/administrating Head-Fi is done via an iPhone.
