Periodic Audio IEMs Mg, Ti, Be, C

Hey guys, just posted up my review of the Carbon. https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/periodic-audio-c-carbon.23787/reviews#review-22282

This is my first real formal review so hopefully it covers its bases and I dont come across sounding like a total idiot who doesnt know what he is talking about. Either way, really been liking the carbons after about 3 weeks of usage. The cable is a bit of a sticking point for me. I like it and am not worried about failure, but its pretty microphonic, which is quite noticeable during dialog when watching tv shows or movies. But for listening to music, its not a big deal. But paired with the nickel, it definitely makes for a really nice little portable piece of kit.

Will hopefully have a separate nickel review up sometime relatively soon!
Glad to see that you're enjoying the earphones!

I know I'm late in the game, but I have just received my MGs and I'm very impressed. Very accurate and natural sound. Perhaps a little ''dry'' sounding with certain music and productions but very lifelike and smooth. The driver's matching is also among the most accurate I have heard on iems.

May I ask what tips you are using with them? I immediately put medium spinfits on them. I usually use small spinfits with most iems but as this particular one sits more shallow than the others I own, I decided to go for the mediums. However, I get a bit of itch so I'm wondering what's the general consensus with Periodic iems and tips.

Personally, I use the UE900 (L) with the green core. Very soft and compliant with all-day comfort for me.

I tried all of the tips that came with my Be and C, and thought that the large foam tips were doing pretty well. Then I got the 600 series of Comply foam tips - more comfortable, better seal and isolation, and better sound.

I have been using Comply Large size for years on all in-ears I have tried. I guess my ears are just used to them now. www.complyfoam.com or from amazon. Get the S/M/L combo pack if you are not sure which size fits you best. The 600 series has a few model options. I prefer “Isolation”.

Happy Hunting!

Thank you so much for your help.
However, I'd rather stay away from Complys as I don't like their feel plus they decompose very quickly.

The eartip struggle is real. I have hard-to-fit ears that need the largest tips available. The two that work best for me with Periodics are
  • Earphones Plus Extra Large. I think they are these (choose size XL), but it's hard to verify. On my order confirmation they're just listed as EP-B6-XL-BLK.
  • Nuheara Oval XL. the oval oval fit works really well for me.

Thanks Michael.

In fact, I usually use smaller tips for most of my iems but strangely enough I need much larger ones with the MGs too.
I suspect that's due to them sitting at the outer ear as opposed to the deeper insertion of others.

I'm a relative IEM noob but I'm learning a lot about tip rolling and how what works for one person doesn't for another. That and how much a tip can change the sonic signature of IEMs.

Disclaimer: 90+% of my music is metal.

For me the default silicon tips work best for my Be. Great seal, all day comfort and the sonics are exactly what I like: Clean, detail and hammering bass, detailed and warm mids and nice clean but chill highs. The foams that came with them sound muddy and bloated in the button end, dull highs and congested mids. My comply 400s that work great on my Thinksound TS02s suffer similarly to the Periodicfoams but with less congestion and cleaner bass. The double flanged silicons have good bass but the mids are pushed forward and grainy.

Most of my tip selection was done listening to:
Though Shalt Not Peak His Name -
Sulphur Aeon
Senor Limpio - Corrosion of Conformity
Venator - Be'lakor
Serenity Painted Death - Opeth
Squonk - Genesis

Yeah, the straight-line construction I imagine has acoustic advantages but pretty much dictates shallow insertion. At least on me.

One other tip that works reasonably well for me that's worth your trying is the RHA dual density large.

Thanks for th RHA recommendation!
They are cheap enough and it's worth to try :)

Wish they had a set of all three sizes like the Complys do, so that we would be able to try all sizes.
