Yet another DX200 bashing session. Sigh...

I don't have a dog in this fight, but the DX200 bashing...

What is the opposite of praise?
Criticism.

You see me in the DX thread? I have every right to do so. I choose not to. Let them enjoy. Pinky chooses not to hang out in the X5iii thread. Seems the best choice. I think I am wise and Pinky is as well.

I got both items mentioned, they were asked about and I gave my criticism in the appropriate forum. I will elaborate in more detail later.

Opus # 3 vs Opus #2 vs DX200 ?

 IMO

OPUS#2 >>>OPUS #3>>>>DX200

Stage 2>>>3>>>DX

Clarity and resolution OPUS 2,3,>>DX

Mid lovers? #2>>>>>>>>#3>>>DX

Treble?   Odd or spectacular tuning of the treble for #3 depending on your taste for slight roll-off for non fatigue or sparkle, steroidal highs. The #3 reaches way up there. The one thing I would give it over the #2 and tastes determine if that is a positive

Bass? None of them really do anything other than strict replay. The #2 has a better sonic replay of the bass IMO over the #3

EDIT:

I am forwarding my unit by my own will to one of Head-Fi's most respected reviewers. He is an audiophile and his take will be more valuable as this device is clearly a neutral tuned item geared towards audiophiles like him.

I skipped that and just went straight to forwarding it to a guy who's IMHO has more weight than mine. I don't think he's any more humble than I but he has Audiophile pedigree on here so for the community it is a good thing.

IMO

I thought Paul retired?

So, you skipped reviewing Opus#3?

Oh, snap. Good reply, Chris!

Our banter goes back to the X5 theme thread.  Like fencing...parry and thrust

I am going to, but down the road. In the meantime, it would seem to be my duty as a contributor to pass it along to a person who is definitely a surefire target of the tuning and who's opinion will help shape the devices intro to the audiophile community. I have seen others review items that were clearly never really intended for their consumption though the company probably did not know that.

And waited for a mail. "Hey HBB, wanna do a temp trade? I got something right down your alley"

Never came.
I thought about that a couple days ago and decided I wanted to make the most of the situation at hand. OPUS wins, the community wins, another member gets to hear an item sooner rather than later and the thoughts expressed are likely to be more influential be it good or bad.

How Opus #2 compared to AK240?! Hehe

Opus #3 is barely released, KANN is not, and it's using a different DAC than the previous line.
It's not like A&K has always produced flat/analytical signatures for their DAPs (AK120 was very warm for instance).

All of this is speculation until both DAPs have been thoroughly tested.
And strictly feature-wise, the KANN is better value (enormous capacity and battery).

The DAP will a transport 60-70% of the time in my case. My Vantam is on burr-brown DAC so idealy when I switch to the DAP I would like to hear the same sound signature, that's why I do not consider AKM or Sabre DACs.

Currently when I switch to Pioneer (2 x ES9018K2M) I need time to adopt to its sound. So I was very glad to know that the #3 is coming.
On the other hand I need a perfect transport. If KANN performs better as a transport then it will be a dilemma. Let’s see…

It's kinda pity. Think I'm going to sell my kidney and get LPG. But if #3 really can compete with dx200 it's still will be interesting to folow this thread. I'll stay subbed.
