How is this player comparing to other brands at same price range (fiio x5 3rd, fiio x7, ak70 etc.) in terms of sound-quality?

Anyone know where to purchase a USA Version of the DP-X1A? Im leary as hell about purchasing an international version in case there is an issue with it.

I'll ask Onkyo at CanJam NYC on Sunday as I'm interested in it too.

I purchased the DP-X1A that rmap had for sale recently, and have been using it with the 3.5mm TRS jack since I got it 2 days ago.. and have been loving it.

However, when I tried the a 2.5mm TRRS jack, with the R-/R+/L+/L- wiring (as per the DP-X1 Brochure, pg6), with both 'balanced' and 'ACG' modes, I'm getting very low sound, poor sound.

So, after some time with those annoying left/right channel test files and a multi-meter, I believe the DP-X1A's 2.5mm balanced jack's layout is: R-/L-/R+/L+

Can someone else also check and confirm please?

At what kind of Headphones did you connect it in balanced mode?

I'm new in this forum and i?m from Italy so apologize for my bad english.
Can i ask a question?
The manual of th Dp-X1 says that I can't connect it in balanced mode at hearphones less than 32 ohm, but I want to buy an Hifiman Edition X V2 (25 Ohm) which can happen in a balanced connecting?
Amp damage?
The damage could also be connecting in AGC mode?
For now i taste it with Hifiman RE 600 in balanced and it sounds wonderfull.

I was not a believer of any thing modifying sound processing specially equalizer of any kind so anyway for the sake of it, I installed viper4android FX  the key is convolver  and download the IRS files and use  Dolby Pro Logic 1.irs

by the way after this you wont need an equalizer anyway.and woha! Of course you need to root the Onkyo not a big deal if you dare a little bit but it is  totally worthy.

According to the manual:
unbalanced mode supports headphones from 16 ohm to 300 ohm
balanced mode supports headphones from 32 ohm to 600 ohm
My intend is to connect in balanced mode Hifiman Edition X V2 (25 ohm) to use the double power of 150mW + 150mW provided in balanced instead the 75mW+75mW of the unbalanced.
By the way, now, I'm listening it with Hifiman RE 600 (16 ohm) in balanced (but in AGC not with double power they don't really deserve it) without problems but the Edition X are far different from
RE 600.
I'm waiting for informations from someone who knows more than me, and then i proceed with the purchase....
But listen it sounds in balanced mode with Hifiman Edition X without any other kind of equipment would be great for me.
I also go out in the street so ...
LOL

You have to disable AGC mode and use the double power (150mW +150mW) offered from a balanced connection, to drive such type of power hugnry headphones.
My two cents...

Naturally... Not sure what point you're trying to make, bud...

For me, the 2.5mm TRRS jack, with the R-/R+/L+/L- wiring didn't work for my DP-X1A...
Tried it on both my HD650 & SE846. sounded awful

As mentioned, I believe the DP-X1A's 2.5mm balanced jack's layout is: R-/L-/R+/L+ (according to the multi-meter & sound)
Can someone else also check and confirm please? -- Just in case I have purchased a bum-unit

Last thing... can you test these cables with another balanced source as an AK for example to exclude the cables are the problem?
In according to the manual the balanced connection for the unit is R-/R+/L+/L- as for the Astell & Kern.
But at least the important thing is the multi-meter measurements and the audio it can put out.
