You can also try a very fun thing, don't use Hd800s, something easier to drive. Compare between ACG and BTL, the ACG should have more controls. I know many people wouldn't believe ACG has even more quality to it, but I heard the differences....however, it may get boring because it is all about details
Indeed there are quality differences. I am only listening with the HD800S at home, but most of the time, on the go and at the office I am using my Aurisonics Harmony with the moon audio silver dragon balanced cable(18 Ohms and my usual volume range is at 110 to 120 on ACG, on vinyl rips with High Dynamic Range at 24/192 I need to raise it to 130).
My settings usually are:
For tracks that involves many instruments(rock, metal) and have fast beats - ACG Sharp and Narrow(my favorite band Nightwish, Paharoh sails to Orion dang beautiful)
Tracks from: Metallica, Dragonforce, Nightwish, Within Temptation are good in these settings to name a few.
For orchestra/classical(though many insturments involved), EDM(though high bpm), Reggae and Pop i use - ACG Sharp and Wide it feels more airy to me
For tracks in these criteria where i feel the instruments and vocals are pushed back or I feel its is sounding flat I switch to ACG Short and Wide
Favorite Classical Tracks for testing:
Stanley Black's- Limelight, The Magnificent Seven
Mantovani's-The Moulin Rouge, High Noon, The Big Country
Ronnie Aldrich - The Go between and the Godfather theme
The sound stage where superb.
Never have used the Short setting.
Dont know if these are anyones musical trip or taste, if anyone wants to experiment with me and find out if we have the same experience with these settings would be good to know.
