Hmm, shall I listen to Metallica 'Metallica' 24/96, Metallica 'Through the Never 16/44.1, Deftones' Koi No Yokan' 24/96, or Burial...

So much to listen to...

Well, you could have resisted, but you decided not to. I like it! Power To The People.

Dual Sabre DAC chips, dual BTL amps, SE & balanced, DSD & MQA, open Android OS, tank-like build, dual SD slots, sexy volume knob, 100+ EQ settings, colourful album display, 720p resolution, bloody 75mW/150mW output, SnapDragon, 2GB RAM, streaming, Aptx Bluetoothness - all this for what? $620?!! If this isn't power to people, what is, boys?!

Anyone know how can I buy this cover from Amazon Japan? http://www.amazon.co.jp/バンナイズ-VanNuys-ONKYO-Pioneer-XDP-100R/dp/B018RXI1PM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1452680750&sr=8-3&keywords=onkyo+dp-x1

Kaneda emailed me when I asked him.

The Van Nuys VD-280-00 DP-X1/XDP-100R Carrying Case will take about a month to ship according to Kaneda (at the time I enquired, around the 3rd).
He quoted me $94 on it's own or $60 with the DP-X1.

I decided to stick to the official DPA-PUX1 leather case for the DP-X1 instead, receiving when it's released (around the 22nd, again according to Kaneda).

I bought yesterday from Amazon Japan using Tenso. But I don't know if is immediately available or not (because all is in Japanese hehehhehe). But it is ok. I can wait.

How do they compare, originally I was going to buy the KEF M500s when I was getting the Pioneer XDP-100R however now Ive bought the Onkyo I really feel I should be looking at the PM3s?.
I also have KEFS R900 mains and LS50s in another room...just need the lottery win so I can get some Blades!

When I bought my first decent Headphones I auditioned Kef 500s, Senns and many other similar priced phones, and since, the PM3s. Very nearly bought Kefs, nice and musical, but the PM3 is just so relaxed it took all the thrill of music away for me. Lovely and pure midrange, but I want a drum to sound attacking. I know many like them so its all personal taste, but do audition them unless you know you want a warm cosy sound. Not for rock!

If you love music and you own an Onkyo DP-X1 PLAY BURIAL ON IT NOW!

The layers, speed, articulation, sense of space, authority, I can go on.

Burial and HECQ are two very difficult pieces of musical art to reproduce, but I truly have found a new, greater way of getting more detail and organic synergy.

My CEntrance HiFi-M8 was the first to provide real oomph and power for such music by the aforementioned artists. It is still a true workforce.
The iFi Audio Retro Stereo 50 DAC/amp built on that but introduced richness and harmonics to all my music (it is THE best pairing for AKG K 712/7XX, 65th Annie's), but a little too powerful; overload of power and dynamics caused some fatigue.

Now, in SE for my AKG K 712, they require a lot of juice. The Onkyo DP-X1 in unbalanced single ended mode does not provide enough power to hone in the last part of dynamics for artists such as Burial or HECQ. It is, however, quiet listenable (even with gain set to high plus near max volume).
What the Onkyo DP-X1 can do in SE is, without that last push of dynamics, fulfill your world with truly awe inspiring sonics. Each layer of Burial's Kindred and Loner tracks from 'Street Halo EP/Kindred EP is incredibly delineated; the player has actually speed to not smear the multiple layers or different sounds together. Recorded rain now sounds REAL, the aura of the music envelops you, the high hats of the drums is sweet with great decay. Bass is incredible, goes very low (deep into low frequencies) and has pretty good amplitude (boom), but it's not as dynamic or loud as I'd like. Then again, this IS the first time I'm hearing these tracks where the bass doesn't sound like a separate engine; the entire musical frequency range is now coherent as one voice, a single piece of evolving art.
I am truly gobsmacked.

I can only imagine what a modified pair of balanced AKG K 712 headphones would sound like, nevermind that my Audeze EL8 closed back headphones will become balanced (waiting on getting it fixed and waiting on cable re-termination).
If the iFi Audio Retro Stereo 50 was the best pairing for the AKG K 712 headphones and it's variants, the Onkyo DP-X1 is the second. It is not being overloaded, I only realise now that is how I was using them.

A single word is how I would sum up the Onkyo DP-X1; crystalline. <3

A mesmerising evening of music.

It also looks drop dead GORGEOUS!

Though I didn't detect much SQ difference, I do go between the player on with WiFi and Stand Alone Mode*. More testing required.
(*SAM: turn screen, wireless signals off; use side buttons for play/pause, track forward or rewind. Deactivating SAM is as simple as pressing the power button and get the screen on).

Don't live in Essex by any chance? Would live to hear this before going ahead with QP1R purchase.

Yes.

Noble Audio Kaiser 10 CIEM, or its variant Prestige CIEM, or the universal K10U IEM. Savant is not based on K10 but is an alternative reference (more analytical than the musical TOTL K10 series).
Link 1: CIEM's including K10
Link 2: Prestige and Savant
Link 3: Universals including K10U IEM

You're welcome

And thanks dude! This thing ROCKS with crystalline sound! It's utterly beautiful, delicious music!

Haha, I have a pair of K10s.  Just built my balanced cable to take advantage of the DP-X1.  Too bad it won't be in my hands for a month or so (opted for slow EMS to try to avoid some customs charges -- always get hit by UPS and Fedex).

Hey sq3rjick, thank you for the reputation on my earlier post.

In a past life I tried to study software engineer but due to some...horrific...incidences at university I dropped out.
Even so, I still have some knowledge on API and fundamentals of computing.

One of my talents that, in real life, has been told to myself numerous times, is my ability to take seriously heavy, very technical topics and explain in layman's terms what's going on.
I'm not exactly perfect, and I do get things wrong, but I genuinely care to help, to a fault at times.
(Probably why I was a complaints agent at an insurance company for a year and a half. Left in May last year WOOOOOOOOO PAAAARRRTTTTYYY!).

Believe it or not, I am a super shy forum user (look at my poor record over the years on here; I'm a lurker!), but I was very impassioned to learn, understand, advice and help others and myself about something I think is revelatory in our crazy audio niche.

I am, therefore, very humbled by your remarks.

Thank you...
