Since the DP-X1 and also presumably the Pioneer XDP-100R don't natively support APE file format, would I be able to play APE files if I downloaded a third-party app like Neutron? Or is it a fundamental codec incompatibility issue with the DAP itself?

It should work since the app handles the decoding of non-native formats (think FLAC Player for iOS). However, from what I remember APE is a very bad choice for mobile devices since its decoding needs way more resources than other lossless formats like FLAC.

Just curious if anyone has any hands-on listening experience with the DP-X1 yet? I know it's not being released until late November, but are there any previews or prototypes that others have seen? I've played with the XDP-100R at RMAF, but I'm very curious to learn how the DP-X1 sounds due to it's different circuitry and such. Cheers

From the pictures with comparison Japanese hands, I must say they should be about note 4 level of plankiness, much thicker but still more manageable than some other DAP out there or stackable solution.

Just compare the dimensions if you want to get a proper perspective:

Note 4: 153.5 x 78.6 x 8.5   (mm)
DP-X1 : 130    x 75.9 x 12.7 (mm)

Note 5 fits easily.

I use Note 4 as a DAP.
DP-X1's size isn't bad at all considering that I have been using Note 4 with Zerolemon's 10,000mAh battery case.

Here's another video of the DP-X1. Anyone care to translate?

Seeing it being handled while in motion makes it actually look relatively compact. Well now for the waiting game...

Anyone else read the Pioneer thread? Is this really supposed to have 128GB included in the box? That would be very nice.
