ONKYO DP-X1 | Dual Sabre Dacs | Balanced | Sabre BTL Amp | MQA | DSD 256 | Android 5 |

I would like to congratulate Romi Audio HK for successfully repairing both jacks of my dpx1.

Even onkyo is not repairing the jacks. They just replace daps ONLY in Japan.

There must be a reason Romi Audio HK is entrusted with most daps even ak sp1000 to perform mod improvements!

If you don't mind my asking, how much was the fix? And what about shipping - I live in the US and would need to get it over there.

My balanced jack is fine, but the regular is a little bit fiddly, and I'd rather nip it in the bud early than let it get worse. I also don't trust myself to do it.

If not Romi, any options stateside?

800HK dollars for both jacks. One jack 500 HKD

I did not find any other options. The previous audio specialist had it 6 months without being able to fix it or finding suitable jacks.

Shipping you can send in any way. From HK if you want express you need to provide 3 customs declarations. If not by registered air mail.

Stupid question, but when in Bluetooth mode, does the signal travel to/through the built-in DACs and amps?

If you're transmitting audio from the DP-X1 using Bluetooth, I'm fairly certain that the the digital audio stream goes directly to the Bluetooth encoding chip - bypassing the DAC and analog circuits.

Really? Bluetooth is transmission protocol equivalent to a wire, exactly the same way wireless IP network is. So if the let's say .flac file goes directly to "Bluetooth encoding chip", whatever it is, without digital to analog conversion, how exactly you can hear anything?

Here is a ink in regards to the technology.

Edit: A liitle more on the technical side, Qualcom uses DSP chips to provide the sound control below is an example.

Here is a "permanent" fix: $45 from Tritonaudiocables.com, see the image. It is not cheap but is well made made of good components. Good enough for me as I am planning to use DP-X1, I do not believe it has any resale value. If that fails, the next step is a garbage bin. Again it is a great sounding DAP but those jacks are a disgrace.
I use only balanced jack but it is equally applicable to SE of course. Here shown with balanced cable for Etymotic, modified from the stock cable by David from Tritonaudiocables.

You can throw in my garbage can.

The way that you hear audio, is that the receiving device has a Bluetooth decoder / DAC and amplifier circuit.
.
If you're using the DP-X1 as a Bluetooth receiver, then the amplifier (at least) is being used. The DACs may, or may not, be used - depending on whether the Bluetooth chip is providing a digital stream, or an analog output

I believe that is correct. Onyko doesn't list what or how they provide the bluetooth output. I t may be something like the diagram below.

Cool - thanks! The reason I asked is because I noticed that, when in Bluetooth, the sound from the DP-X1A is different (better and flatter in my opinion) coming to my PXC-550 compared to when I pair with a regular smartphone. It must come down to the implementation of those chips, because my Pixel 2's Developer Settings also let me select AptX HD.

I've opened up an XDP-300R and changed the DAC/Amp to repair the jack. However if i could source the correct jack it would have been quite straight forward to replace it. They're surface mounted so you'd be better using a hot air station.
If anyone can confirm a source for the jack components, both 2.5mm and 3.5mm I'd be grateful.

Below is a link to the XDP-300R page with some instructions on how to get inside the unit.

Is it possible to use the DP-X1A as a USB DAC for my MacBook Pro? I have the Tidal app but on the Android version, but it does not allow MQA playback. That option is only available on the Desktop app and I've yet to try listening to MQA.
TIA
