You can go USB out to another source like an amp and it will use the Onkyo DAC but if it has its own DAC it may bypass the onkyo AMP and DAC. What are you going to use as an AMP?

Most likely the schiit Valhalla 2 which from what I've seen most amps only have rca, or xlr in not usb (digital) I'd have to go with a external DAC as well? Didn't really want to go that route being the Onkyo has decent DAC's (from what I've read)

Yeah it has dual sabre DACs which are revealing. You could try a balanced cable with your headphones and the Onkyo Dual AMPs and DACs would be utilized and should have sufficient power.

I had some Oppo PM3 that had just one cable but where wired balanced and sounded great with the DP-X1. Another great AMP and or DAC for your Beyers is the ifi I DSD Black label which I'm using now but with my isine20 .

I'm sorry I'm new to this thread, but is the bloatware really that distracting with this player? I have an AK 120 II that I'm going to sell and buy a cheaper player with an amp. So I'm considering this one.

I'm sure. I've also read reports by some that have to wire them balanced, with mixed results.

I actually haven't demoed the cans with the DPX1A yet just a store demo, maybe they will sound ok, but at 250ohm most likely not, what will the 3.5mm out with the Onkyo set to "line level" out sound like connected to an external amp via this method.
Not sure. I only have IEMs, I like to be portable all the time and light weight as possible.
I have the X7ii as well and can swap amps on it and it has a high power amp. Maybe you should look at that as well.

Is there a gigantic difference with the x7 and the x7ii?

Me as well, I will mainly use my Shure IEM's But want a solution for home use with this device being it's a fantastic player, has storage, Tidal...The list goes on. Thanks for your input.
