Well, it's in disk mode now. Not seeing a device or drive pop up on my Mac though.

Dangit, now I put the 240gb HDD I had in it before and it won't start up, just sits on the Apple logo or sometimes shows the "connect to itunes" display. I think I may have actually busted the little hard drive connector. They were $3 on Amazon so I ordered one but does anyone know if this could be the root of the issue?

I hope this is the root of the problem...

So what about autonomy with msata ssd? @

That seemed to be the problem! The next problem was the replacement connector I ordered from Amazon didn't work, so I ditched the project for a few days until another one was sent to me, possibly by mistake. I hooked it up as a last ditch effort right now and it works fine! 256GB 5g! Hooray!

I also have a 512gb mSATA SSD in my current Macbook Air. Since I'm selling it soon, does anyone know if the iPod could handle that?

Glad it worked out for you. As for the 512gb msata, nobody has tried it so far to my knowledge and you have nothing to lose from trying it since you have all the parts.

I am gonna to change the ribbon cable for my 256gb msata after I get back from vacation.

Hi,

I give you some news: I successfully installed the SSD in each of Ipods and have restored them. Both Ipods are functioning normally, I could sync music and everything seems to work but here is a huge trouble: the battery is melting the same as snow in the sun.

The two battery I've bought are from this store on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400290197489&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1371wt_1397

They were supposed to be 900mAh (original batterys are normaly 580 ?) but I can't run the Ipod longer than 3 hours. The Ipod is showing 80% of battery and shutdown without warning. When I start it again, it's showing me the battery logo "battery is completely empty".

I also got off eBay of these "900mAh" and it all behaves just like you said, they are bad, very bad batteries .

So, where will I find the best battery ? I don't want to try all of them...

Edit: Here is a link where you can see pictures I have taken from the Ipod, ssd and adapter (plus my Shure IEMs): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ndscb0w4lb4nnd5/i9pgMrOAwW

Please do try to install the 512mb mSATA drive in the iPod, you will be doing the community a huge service by doing this test.

This mSATA drive is on sale right now and it's proven to work fine on the iPod video.

I've been watching mSATA SSDs for a few weeks now and finally found a decent deal on a 256GB. Not as good as the earlier $160 price but it'll do.
