Once I have everything reassembled and in working order with the fat back I'll give Rockbox a shot.

OK and please keep us updated. I am ready to order and try the 256GB Crucial M4 mSATA if the RB works on yours. Reading earlier posts from this thread, it appears some of the ssd's worked with the OF not the RB.

For me RB always comes first before the SSD swap.

I don't believe so.  Also, see the first post regarding the Gen 6 iPod's storage interface.

crashtack is one of the other users who had success with the mSATA to ZIF adapter, but he wasn't able to get RB going.  I'll definitely keep you posted though.

I couldn't get RockBox Utility to recognize my iPod 5G modded with a PATA 128 GB SSD until I repartitioned the drive with 2048-byte sectors, even though I had formatted it for Windows and iTunes correctly recognized it.

The RockBox wiki has instructions for how to do this on Windows, Mac and Linux. I don't know if that's the same problem you're facing with the larger mSATA drive, but the symptoms are similar.

Interesting. Whats' the brand of your PATA 128 GB SSD? So the RB runs flawlessly after you did the repartition?

Only 32GB - are you downsizing? Where are the pics for the 128GB CF card swap?

I have to take it out of the Yo Tank case. I'll do it tomorrow. The 32GB is my second unit...until I get another 128gb card.

Just kidding and no need to open the case. I believe you.

Man I need badly a 240GB for my growing music library. I could easily throw in a 240GB HDD which is less expensive and proven, but I need a change of life and try the ssd option. 120GB's won't bring in much more for me as I have a pair of 5.5g/80GB's.

It's my understanding that nobody has put a 256SSD on an iPod 7G (Late 2009) ? Is that correct ?

That would be a thing of awesomeness....
