This may be true, but I like the iPod sound from time to time, especially when it has a ton of music on it. So can you confirm that you're using a 6th gen Ipod with your fostex?

Oh no, don't get me wrong. I'm an iPod man through and through. But only as a storage and UI device.

They do, but this is the cheapest they've ever been. Had to pick one up. Going to try my first build going over the ios track limit. Remember other posts saying it's complicated. Sure hope I can figure it out. Would love to have my entire collection in my pocket!

Crash test, what iPod are you using as a transport to your fostex or external DAC?

My first rig was a 5.5 with a D-Zero. I sold that and made what I thought was a 5.5G, as this is the mainboard that was sold to me, but I've checked the pcb serial and I think its a 6,.. In a 5.5 Video case tho. Lol
I use a 7 now.

Thanks. I use a 5.5 512gb for travel and a good old 160gb 7th gen classic to an external Dac at home for casual listening.

Apart from mine, I've modified a few 5.5gen iPods for friends which has gotten me thinking about getting up my courage to expand my 7th gen.

  Have my 5.5Gen built with a 480GB Crucial M500.

I think my drive overheated while loading music now the battery drains very quickly. The 2000mah battery does need seem to charge fully & drains very quickly in RB. Do I now need to open the ipod & hook up the mSata to my PC to fix it?

Or did I fry something?

mSATA drives do get pretty hot... I have one in a small external enclosure and it can get quite warm...

You don't specify how long and how much music you were dumping in your iPod.  I've synched a lot of content on my mSATA drives and there is no problem with the battery.
