Finally all the parts arrived, so I've just finished my iPod mod and would like to thank You all.
The setup is the following:
-iPod 5.5G 64mb logic board from a 80GB fat
-Slim Video front and backplate from a 30GB
-Tarkan iFlash bundle
-128GB QUMOX SDXC
-Original FW

So far everything is smooth and nice at around 6k songs.
Feels strangely light in hand without HDD.

Pic of your build?  I also just finished something similar to yours but with a 64GB PNY.

Are you planning to put flash memory into that iPod as well? Not just for more space but at least for me the hard drives in iPods crap out so quickly which is why I went with Nanos for so long. You could use it until the HD fails and then upgrade it later so at least you get some use out of included drive.

If its a 5.5 its not a Classic. Well do like I said and run the HD until it dies and then do this mod because it sounds complicated but its just plugging stuff in if you just put a 64-128GB card in. It only gets more complex when you try to put larger amounts in.

what is the largest capacity battery that I can install in a slim 5.5gen 30gb ipod?
what is the largest capacity battery that I can install in a 5.5gen 60-80gb fat ipod?
how much run time can i expect in each situation?

does anyone have a link for a site that sells reliable ipod batteries? i feel that all the ones on ebay and amazon are hit or miss...

I believe 650 mAh is the best You can get for the slim case. http://www.idemigods.com is trusted and good, but if You prefer eBay (or just like in my case, shipping is significantly less) here is the link for the same http://www.ebay.com/itm/400837704935?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Hello all, I've got a couple questions:
Here is my first iPod. 30 gb Video.

I pulled it out of a drawer after years of (rightful) neglect. I forget what happened, but one day it ceased to work, & was put to rest.
I'd like to think I could put it to some good use, but here's the problem:
I still don't know why it stopped working in the first place, so while I go about trying to order a replacement display and a battery, for all I know the logic board could be dead.
I'd like the satisfaction of fixing it up but I might be just as good off buying an equally scuffed & mishandled (but functioning) iPod Video to then mod.
What do?
