Any idea when you are likely to get that 256 card yet Dminor?  Was kinda thinking of giving a sony or a fiio a go for a change of pace, but if the 256 card is compatible it would be nice to have most of my music and audiobooks on the one device!

Sorry no idea. I kind regret going with the cheaper shipping (HK Post). The tracking status has not changed after almost 10 days. I have a bad feeling this damn card will take long time to get here.

I did it, but it was not the problem, because it still keeps doing the same thing.
I've recently installed kubuntu in my last Windows machine, so I don't have any way to test in the H2testw.
Anyway, I got tired doing tests and yesterday I bought a 32gb 266x CF card in amazon... it is "komputerbay" brand, we'll see if it works...

I have that CF card too bought a yr ago from Amazon. It works and no issues. I still don't understand why the Komputerbay CF cards are sold much cheaper than other CF cards, unless they are less reliable. Only time will tell.

One time I bought a 128GB Lexar CF card from Amazon but that card didn't work with the Tarkan. Then I put it on ebay for bid and sold it for a profit enough to cover another used 64GB CF card I bought from Amazon. That turned out be my all-time best purchase from Amazon. LOL.

I just successfully upgraded a 30GB iPod Video Fifth Generation ("5G") with a 240GB mSATA SSD, new battery. Everything worked out of the box, I did not need the mSata to 2.5" adaptor at all (it hasn't even come in the mail yet, I couldn't wait!)

Battery: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0030LSFQW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm very happy.

So how did the ssd fit in without the adaptor?  Just straight swop out from the hard drive?

Nice.  Was tempted by a sony but may hold off to see how this goes instead.  Really didn't fancy batch converting a load of m4b files to mp3 as it was!

If you are not happy with your ipod, then go for the Sony or something else regardless how this card does. If I am not happy with these diymods, I wouldn't bother to get a 256GB card.

About 20mb I think.

Happy New Year everyone!

I doubt the ipod can write at 20mb/s regardless of the card. Maybe half of that. I could be wrong.

For me it's more about storage than ultimate sound quality.  I listen to audiobooks as well as music whilst at work.  So I currently use a clip plus for music and a classic for the books.  Getting fed up of carrying two devices around so if I can get something with enough storage to carry the books and music around, so much the better.
