It could be issue with the ribbon cable (linking the board to your ZIF-CF). Also format the SDXC card to FAT32 (use the Hp USB Disk Storage Tool) before restore. If that's not enough, then there may be compatibility issue with the SDXC card.

Thanks DMinor. The cable seems to not be the issue, I've used a original hdd from other ipod and it worked.
I've used a sdhc card not a sdxc... may be this the problem? (it was from hong kong...)
I used several applications to format in fat32 the disk, played with partitions and so, but not the hp usb disk storage tool, i'll give it a try...
thank again!

Hi.

I've been reading most of the posts in this thread and I haven't find an answer to my question. I'm receiving a 30gb ipod video 5th gen from Vinnie soon (RedWine Audio), I was thinkering about putting in a 240gb Toshiba hard drive (Toshiba 240GB 1.8" MK2431GAH). I asked Vinnie and he said it probably works but I was wondering if any of you have any experience with the imods from him? I understand the stuff he does the ipods and it shouldn't affect the hard drive right? Seems like the Toshiba HD has worked for other people, not just in this thread? I would probably just need to buy a thicker back panel for it.

Thanks

When making these mods, like replacing the battery, headphone jack/hold switch into a new rear casing, etc., what kind/brand adhesive would anyone recommend?

The batteries usually come with an adhesive on them, the other parts are screwed on.

There are a couple of other pads inside the rear cover that provide cushioning between the metal and headphone port/lock switch assembly. I can't find a picture of them.

Also, if the adhesive on the battery is no longer sticky, I need to find something to use there, too.

So are there any suggestions on what to use for adhesive inside an iPod video 5th generation?

Scotch has a nice 2 sided clear tape that works well for attaching the battery to the back.

7th generations will not work with a ssd mod.  No one really knows why, but if you trawl back through the thread the 5th gen is the one with the most success.

That SDHC may well be the problem as I am not aware of anyone who has used those kinds of cards. You should check with Tarkan as well (I am assuming you are using his adapter card). Then there is also a possibility of issue with the CF-SD adapter.

I bought a pair of used 128GB SDXC cards from Amazon at very low price. Both are working very well. However, I noticed the sdxc's don't sound as good as the CF's. So I will no longer go that route. I also like to keep things simple using only one adapter for the CF cards.

Any idea when you are likely to get that 256 card yet Dminor?  Was kinda thinking of giving a sony or a fiio a go for a change of pace, but if the 256 card is compatible it would be nice to have most of my music and audiobooks on the one device!

Did you this?

Download H2testw - Test hacked flash memory - MyMPx : http://mympx.org/Downloads/p13_sectionid/2/p13_fileid/13

Please test your SD card with that program and post the test results here.
