That depends on when it shuts off. If during a read/playback cycle, it should be fine to just charge it up and go.

If that were to occur during a write/load cycle, all bets are off and you could have corruption issues needing a Restore.

So that means that when im listening to music im safe even if the battery dies but i must avoid running out of battery when im loading the iPod with music. Blah....too much of an hassle. I think ill just buy a 5mm HDD and transfer my "fat" 80gb 5.5G to a thin 160gb.

Was your success with the Dolgix Blaze6c CF card in a Gen 5, or a Gen 5.5?

I ask because I couldn't get that card to work in a Gen 5.5, although it is entirely possible Dolgix buys these cards from various different manufacturers and re-brands them, i.e. we may not have had identical samples.

I also vaguely remember Tarkan telling me he had user reports of it working in the Gen 5, but not the 5.5.

I was very disappointed I couldn't get the Dolgix CF card to work in the 5.5, it was both faster and cheaper than the Lexar CF card.

Currently it is with a 5.5g. But I don't remember if it was with a 5g previously as I have switched a few times between ipods without the need for restore.

Just remember the 2000mAh battery won't fit with the SDXC adapter, an unfortunate trade-off involved with using SDXC.

You can still get great run time from the Milliamp 850mAh battery, but the 2000mAh battery only fits with the mSATA or CF adapters, SDXC eats up too much room.

What do you think about this one:

This construction could support 2000 mAh battery and SDXC adapter... I will try...

If you go with the 256 gb, you may also need to run a special utility to provide dual boot if you go Rockbox. There is a new firmware rev from Tarkan, but it is not clear if that issue is fixed or not.

My modified unit boots to Rockbox fairly quickly. Original firmware...not so quickly.

Look into the Tarkan adapter.  http://www.tarkan.info/store  Better build quality.
