Am annoyed that there seem to be custom ipod housings that are only available in the US (or at excessive postal charges here). Like 'light green' fronts or 'rose gold' or (especially) 'red' back-plates. Unlike all the others they don't seem to be available direct from China (where the post costs are lower).

Hey all you IPOD Fans and Cracks,
even though I have really many modded Ipod-Classics (7 - actually what for?), 1 5.5 Video (unmodded) and some Ipod Minis (7 only one working with 1TB - weep, 3 working with regular CF card - the others not working at all), I just bought another Ipod Classic 7th gen for really little money, just € 82,-- including shipping costs.
I have 2 Tarkan dual SD adaptors, one will go into the new one.
Does anyone know, if the dual adaptor can hold 2TB?

Greets,
Julia

Hi Julia,

I do not have a dual but for the quad I can tell you that it is possible to have 2TB with two cards, ea. 1TB.

Have fun,
Chris

Hey Chris,

thanks for the information
Which 1TB cards did you use?

Greets,
Julia

@ThinWalls,
"Annoyingly, it seems that 512GB cards are 12GB too _large_ to be usable in that arrangement. 1TB, 512GB, 512GB, 128GB seems to work. But a better option would be 1TB, 512GB,400GB, 256GB. Hence, if I'm correct that even going 23GB over the maximum size causes restore to fail, then 400GB cards can be preferable to 512GB ones
(as 1TB 512GB 512GB 200GB - doesn't work, while 1TB 512GB 400GB 256GB does)."

Wow, you spent a lot of time to find all that out....
But I have a question: in one of your posts you mentioned "SI" marking on the SD (micro SD) cards.
Where do/can I find that?

Which cards did you use for your 1TB +3x 400GB or 1TB + 2x 512GB + 1x 128GB set ups?

Julia

To be honest: it has been some months ago since I did it and I do not remember the brand. Either SanDisk or another company with a good name. I am hesitant to open it, it is an IPOD 7G and it is not so easy to open.

Yep, it's true they are hard to open. But maybe you still have a bill like from amazon, ebay or so?

I am really sorry but I have no clue anymore where I bought them. But these are, most probably SanDisk Extreme. I used them for some years in my tab and smartphone before the 2TB cards were available. And normally I bought them the days when they were released. And the first on the market were SanDisk. Hope this helps a little bit...

Got an ipod to work with 1Tb, 512Gb, 400Gb, 256Gb cards, which adds up to more than the 2Tb limit. But I think that's because the cards are labelled with the SI prefixes not the computer-world binary ones. So that's actually 1000+512+400+256 = 2168Gb, and the FAT32 max is 2Tib = 2048Gib = 2199Gb. So, I guess, if I have this right, anything that adds up to 2199Gb or less will work. Didn't realise till just now that the cards sold as 1Tb are actually 1000Gb not 1024Gb yet alone 1024Gib.
Hello ThinWalls,
where will I see the SI prefixes?

@chrishh
well, actually no. But the Problem is solved. The micro sdxc cards I bought do work - very, very extremely slow, but they work.
see. below

@all,
I was lucky to have baught the Lexar mircro SDXC card V30 / U3 / A2 / 1TB / Blue for a special offer price of about € 73,-- (now they are back at € 89,99) from Amazon.
They do work in a ipod Video with the SDXC adapter and the Iflash Dual........... but they are f* slow. Only 7mb/s writing speed.
But I prefer slow and working, instead of fast and needing to restore several times.
40somethousand songs might need 2-3 days, but I already love the thought of holding my 1st Ipod in my hands.
Actually it's my 4th, but the previous 3 4th Gen Ipods let me down, so Apple offered me either the 60GB or 80GB Ipod.
Guess which one I chose?

The slow speed is known to me for the Video. I never got much more than this, even if I had only one card in the adapter. One of the reasons to get rid of them. If you need some spare parts (units)...
One thing puzzles me: nowadays they offer you a replacement? Must be some years in the past.
80Gb?

You got rid of the 5th Gen / Video? Everybody seems to praise the Wolfson DAC so much. Did you never hear a difference in sound?
No that was back in the days when the Video just came up.
What do you have as spare parts/units available - where do you live?
With high shipping cost it wouldn't be reasonable.

To be honest: I do not hear a big difference. See my PM.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the iPod topic, because I've never had one before. So I decided to catch up on my unopened Gestalts and bought an iPod 5. Before I start using it, I'd like to clarify something... Maybe someone can explain in a nutshell why everyone is so obsessed with this Wolfson DAC? What's so special about it? Maybe someone has a link to useful information about it?
