What would that exactly do? Would that just get rid of the watermarks and leave the text intact? I've never heard of a non-abrasive metal polish before..
I think it's more a matter of it being "fine" and not "coarse", so at to best match the general finish of the cup. Yes, all metal polishes need be abrasive to get the job done, but some are more abrasive than others.
As the text is etched and not painted on/applied to the surface, it cannot rub off. But it can be smoothed out/polished a bit and I would expect this would ruin its finish. PROCEED CAREFULLY!
Always be careful with metal polish, but a non-abbrasive metal polish isn't going to wear down the cups enough to affect the etching. That said, I wasn't recommending that polish, just using it as an example of non-abbrasive metal polish. I forget the brand I used back in the army.
