Holy F**cK! I WANT TO MOD THIS LITTLE BABY! O_o

Have You tried OPA2228 already with it?

Wonder if there are already mods for X9 too? I like its looks but seems X10 is highly moddable (custom shell, replaceable battery etc.) :p

It seems that the X9 is ful of hard to solder SMD chips and components, and it’s sound good stock tho. No need to mod it.

I don’t have OPA2288 yet to try, how does it sound tho?

The X10 is easy to mod because you have a lot of space inside to put big components tho, seriously ton of spaces. The biggest thing that’s gonna change the sound is the two capacitors in the upper corners and the Op amps. The IV chips is not necessarily to change tho, but it’s worth a try lol

How was the sound with the stock op amp?
Idk, I change the stock opamp and do the mod immediately when I open the box. I threw away the stock opamp because it’s some Chinese jelly bean chip and not sound good

That's a shame.

Assuming that it's not a fake NE5532, it should sound really good. I've tried numerous op amps on my Objective 2 amplifier and the NE5532APE4 sounds the best

I’ve never had a jds labs objective 2, but my friend make modified O2, and to my opinion ad797 + lme49720 sounds best

Can I have a look at the PCB?

I’ll post the other face later because I’m not home now, but basically a lot of smd stuffs 9AB349FE-E05E-4F20-A20D-7C1C28BBCEB7.jpeg

I wonder if there’s any value in populating those unused CR12 capacitor spots?

They’re for the buffer opamps but my friend who made the pcb said it’s unnecessary to add capacitors in those spot

What are all the OP amps that you are using in the modified O2?

Which one is used for the gain stage, output buffer etc

Thanks
Two AD797 for gain stage, two LME49720 for buffer

Just started listening to music a bunch more. I usually listen while walking around town, hiking, biking etc, I like neutral music with detail and space. I currently have a LG G6 as my source. I will probably put neutron on it. I have Grado sr60s, brainwavz M5 IEMs, KZ ZSN PRO, waiting on some IEMs that must not be named, and am thinking about picking up a pair of Tin Hifi T3. My question is would getting a $50ish dedicated DAP make for better quality sound than my phone with these lower spec earphones (don't use my grados much)? I was looking at ZikiHD-X9, Zishan Z3 with ak4493 chip, Benjie x5 or x6, or the Raizu A50. If it would make better sound quality which of these DAPs would you recommend.Oh I listen to old rock, newish rock, blues, bluegrass, some folk. Think Jimi Hendrix, Jack Johnson, Nickel Creek, Rage Against the Machine, David Bowie, Joan Osborne etc.

Dont have the Zishan Z3 and Ruizu so my vote goes to Ziku. Z3 is very interesting but my gripe with Zishan DSD and the Benjie X6 is that there is an audible hiss when u plug in or remove the earphone from the jack or turning the volume knob, so the Z3 might have the same problem too. Ziku doesnt have any of such problem but the sound is not neutral. My version of the update makes it brightish.

Another question to ask urself is the type of file and sampling rate of the music u are listeing to.
