How durable are silicone CIEMs? I read somewhere that they can break down over time.

Give them to me, I will break them.

The major issue with silicone is moisture. Silicone does not allow the ear to breathe. Reflect on a bandaid, when u pull it off the skin is moist. Same thing with silicone, leave it in the ear long enough, the ear becomes a sauna, not a great environment for electronics.

The ealier silicones (another mfg) didnt have sockets, and the cable ran directly into the silicone. That system, allowed a pathway of moisture into the silicone housing, which would eventually kill the internal components.

Our silicone ciems have sockets, i wouldnt say due to sockets, all problems have been resolved. The sauna effect can harm dampers and drivers as well.

Yeah I am, wasn't able to make it to the meet in March due to work

Seems interesting, I could get the day off fairly easily now by requesting it, and getting to listen to some universal demos would be cool, even if it's not 100% true to the custom version. As long as it doesn't make me bite on a higher costing IEM, should be good

I had this issue with silicone customs. Even with T2 socket cables, the drivers would regularly die.
At least one company now offers a "semi-hard" shell, which is silicone for the inear part and acrylic for the main body of the shell. I've not tried them, but it sounds like it could offer the premium isolation without the associated problems of full silicone.

Well, good to see you again, the show at the source is also free, so that's a bonus. Jason has THE room you need to check out, its home theater stuff, but that alone is worth the trip. Get your butt on over, Brannan and I will be there, I will be working the Noble booth and he will be doing something.

Does the acrylic build up sweat/dirt/wax over time as well?

I bought a CIEM cleaning kit for when mine arrives, how often should I be using it and is it even recommended to use those in the first place?

Does the sound quality slowly diminish over the years due to wax buildup etc

Just curious!
